Adaptive evolution implies evolutionary shifts within an organism which make it suitable and adaptable for its environment. Genetic resources of sago palm (Metroxylon sagu Rottb.) populations in Indonesia were explicated as follows: (1) Characters of sago palm in Indonesia were shown varied based on cpDNA markers and large variation based on RAPD markers. (2) Variation of starch production of sago palm correlated with Wx genes variation, (3) Distances barrier and geographies isolation in line of sago palm dispersions in Indonesia (4) Characteristics of genetic were observed does not related with vernacular names those were given by local people (5) Papua islands, Indonesia territorial is proposed the center of sago palm diversities, (6) Papua islands, Sulawesi islands and Kalimantan islands will be the provenance of the diversities (7) Genetic improvement of sago palm might enhanced using molecular marker that link to interesting genes by developing marker-assisted breeding.

ABSTRACT Protoplast fusion of diauxotrophic mutants of a Beauveria bassiana entomopathogenic strain (Bb28) and a Beauveria sulfurescens toxinogenic strain (Bs2) produced hybrids which were significantly different from the parents in pathogenicity. Some of the hybrids were hypervirulent and killed insects more quickly than the Bb28 strain, probably because these hybrids had acquired the toxic activity of the Bs2 strain. By using six nuclear genes and a telomeric fingerprint probe, the molecular structures of the hybrids were studied. The results demonstrated the occurrence of parasexual events. Hybrids appeared to be diploid or aneuploid, with portions of the genome being heterozygous. A mitochondrial molecular marker indicated homoplasmy of the hybrids and inheritance of mitochondria from strain Bs2 or Bb28. The pathogenicities and the ploidies of the hybrids remained stable after passage through the host insect, showing that somatic hybridization provides an attractive method for the genetic improvement of biocontrol efficiency in the genus Beauveria.

Sarcandra glabra has significant metabolically active bioingredients of pharmaceutical importance. The deficiency of molecular markers for S. glabra is a hindrance in molecular breeding for genetic improvement. In this study, 57.756 million pair-end reads were generated by transcriptome sequencing in S. glabra (Thunb.) Nakai and its subspecies S. glabra ssp. brachystachys. A total of 141,954 unigenes with 646.63 bp average length were assembled. A total of 25,620 simple sequence repeats, 726,476 single nucleotide polymorphisms, and 42,939 insertions and deletions were identified, and the associated unigenes and differentially expressed genes were characterized. This work enhanced the molecular marker resources and will facilitate molecular breeding and gene mining in S. glabra spp.
