Recent measurements of time-dependent CP-asymmetries at the B-factories have led to substantial progress in our understanding of CP-violation. In this paper, we review some of these experimental results and discuss their implications in the Standard Model and their sensitivity to New Physics.

The standard model predictions for CP violating hadronic decay asymmetries are presented in the form of probability distributions. From these distributions, it can be easily seen what the most likely values of these quantities are, which measurements would clearly be signs of new physics, and which values of the CP asymmetries would most constrain the parameters of the standard model.

Abstract We perform a detailed analysis of flavour changing neutral current processes in the charm sector in the context of 331 models. As pointed out recently, in the case of Z′ contributions in these models there are no new free parameters beyond those already present in the Bd,s and K meson systems analyzed in the past. As a result, definite ranges for new Physics (NP) effects in various charm observables could be obtained. While generally NP effects turn out to be small, in a number of observables they are much larger than the tiny effects predicted within the Standard Model. In particular we find that the branching ratio of the mode D0→ μ+μ−, despite remaining tiny, can be enhanced by 6 orders of magnitude with respect to the SM. We work out correlations between this mode and rare Bd,s and K decays. We also discuss neutral charm meson oscillations and CP violation in the charm system. In particular, we point out that 331 models provide new weak phases that are a necessary condition to have non-vanishing CP asymmetries. In the case of ∆ACP, the difference between the CP asymmetries in D0→ K+K− and D0→ π+π−, we find that agreement with experiment can be obtained provided that two conditions are verified: the phases in the ranges predicted in 331 models and large hadronic matrix elements.

AbstractWe show that the current values of $$R_K^\mathrm {exp}$$ R K exp and $$R_{K^*}^\mathrm {exp}$$ R K ∗ exp can be accommodated by allowing a nonzero New Physics coupling $$\delta C_9^{\mu \mu }$$ δ C 9 μ μ to be complex, both in the scenario in which only $$\delta C_9^{\mu \mu }$$ δ C 9 μ μ is affected, and in the scenario with complex $$\delta C_{9,10}^{\mu \mu }$$ δ C 9 , 10 μ μ satisfying $$\delta C_{9}^{\mu \mu }=-\delta C_{10}^{\mu \mu }$$ δ C 9 μ μ = - δ C 10 μ μ . A presence of the weak CP-violating phase can then be tested by measuring the CP-asymmetry, $$\mathcal {A}_\mathrm {CP}$$ A CP . We show that this asymmetry is enhanced around the peak of each $$c\bar{c}$$ c c ¯ -resonance, and in fact more pronounced in the close vicinity of $$J/\psi $$ J / ψ and $$\psi (2S)$$ ψ ( 2 S ) . Therefore, measuring $$\mathcal {A}_\mathrm {CP}$$ A CP before and after the resonances’ peak could be revelatory of the CP-violation that originates from beyond the Standard Model, or to be a significant constrain when building a realistic scenario of New Physics.

The latest results for QCD and Heavy flavor at the Tevatron are summarized. The most recent results on Jet physics are discussed in the light of searching for new physics and to study the contribution of soft interactions to the hard process. The production of c and b-hadrons and the their decay properties can be precisely measured at the Tevatron. Lifetimes, branching fractions and CP asymmetries for several decay modes are discussed. In particular the prospects for Bsmixing at the Tevatron are presented.

Of the many ingredients of the Standard Model that are relevant to the analysis of CP asymmetries in B0 decays, some are likely to hold even beyond the Standard Model while others are sensitive to new physics. Consequently, certain predictions are maintained while others may show dramatic deviations from the Standard Model. Many classes of models may show clear signatures when the asymmetries are measured: four quark generations, Z-mediated flavor-changing neutral currents, supersymmetry and “real superweak” models. On the other hand, models of left-right symmetry and multi-Higgs sectors with natural flavor conservation are unlikely to modify the Standard Model predictions.

The status of CP violation and the CKM matrix is reviewed. Direct CP violation in B decay has been established and the measurement of sin 2β in ψK modes reached 5% accuracy. I discuss the implications of these, and of the possible deviations of the CP asymmetries in b → s modes from that in ψK. The first meaningful measurements of α and γ are explained, together with their significance for constraining both the SM and new physics in [Formula: see text] mixing. I also discuss implications of recent developments in the theory of nonleptonic decays for B → πK rates and CP asymmetries, and for the polarization in charmless B decays to two vector mesons.

Abstract In this paper we investigate CP violation in charged decays of D meson. Particularly, we study the direct CP asymmetry of the Cabibbo favored non-leptonic $$D^+ \rightarrow {\bar{K}}^0 \pi ^+$$D+→K¯0π+ and the doubly Cabibbo-suppressed decay mode $$D^+ \rightarrow K^0 \pi ^+$$D+→K0π+ within standard model, two Higgs doublet model with generic Yukawa structure and left right symmetric models. In the standard model, we first derive the contributions from box and di-penguin diagrams contributing to their amplitudes which are relevant to the generation of the weak phases essential for non-vanishing direct CP violation. Then, we show that the generated phases are so tiny leading to null direct CP asymmetries of both decay modes. Regarding the two Higgs doublet model with generic Yukawa structure, after taking into account all constraints on the parameter space of the model, we show that the weak phases of the amplitudes can be enhanced compared to the standard model ones. However, the enhancement is still not enough to have sizable direct CP asymmetries. Finally, within left right symmetric models, we find that $$|A^{SM+LR}_{CP} (D^+ \rightarrow {\bar{K}}^0 \pi ^+)|\lesssim \mathcal {O}(10^{-3})$$|ACPSM+LR(D+→K¯0π+)|≲O(10-3) after respecting all relevant constraints on the parameter space of the model.
