An entire function F(z) = f(g(z)) is said to have f(z) and g(z) as left and right factors respe2tively, provided that f(z) is meromorphic and g(z) is entire (g may be meromorphic when f is rational). F(z) is said to be prime (pseudo-prime) if every factorization of the above form implies that one of the functions f and g is bilinear (a rational function). F is said to be E-prime (E-pseudo prime) if every factorization of the above form into entire factors implies that one of the functions f and g is linear (a polynomial). We recall here that an entire non-periodic function f is prime if and only if it is E-prime [5]. This fact will be useful in the sequel.

AbstractThe quadratic functional equation f(f(x)) *–Tf(x) + Dx = 0 is equivalent to the requirement that the graph be invariant under a certain linear map The induced projective map is used to show that the equation admits a rich supply of continuous solutions only when L is hyperbolic (T2 > 4D), and then only when T and D satisfy certain further conditions. The general continuous solution of the equation is given explicitly in terms of either (a) an expression involving an arbitrary periodic function, function additions, inverses and composites, or(b) suitable limits of such solutions.

The aim of this technical brief is to test numerical inverse Laplace transform methods with application in the framework of the thermal characterization experiment. The objective is to find the most reliable technique in the case of a time resolved experiment based on a thermal disturbance in the form of a periodic function or a distribution. The reliability of methods based on the Fourier series methods is demonstrated.

Periodic functions are of special importance in quantum computing, particularly in applications of Shor's algorithm. We explore methods of creating circuits for periodic functions to better understand their properties. We introduce a method for constructing the circuit for a simple monoperiodic function, that is one-to-one within a single period, of a given period $p$. We conjecture that to create a simple periodic function of period $p$, where $p$ is an $n$-bit number, one needs at most $n$ Toffoli gates.

The benefits of light weight, structural strength, and reduced costs without significant reduction of transmission of solar energy of a corrugated fiberglass composite cover promise wide utilization of this cover in solar collectors to suppress convective and radiative heat losses from the absorber panel. In order to evaluate the thermal performance of a collector with a corrugated cover, the directional transmittance of the cover must be available. A study was undertaken to develop a model for the directional transmittance of a corrugated cover as represented by a sinusoidal periodic function. As an application of this model, hourly and daily thermal efficiencies of a solar collector with a corrugated cover are presented.
