Monograph is prepared on the basis of the materials collected in near-shore waters of Crimea in 2003, and the retrospective data. Modern condition of biological diversity in near-shore zone of Crimea is shown on the basis of analysis of qualitative and quantitative composition of micro- and zooplankton, phyto- and zoobenthos, ichthyofauna and parasite fauna; the recommendations on conservation of biological diversity are given. Responses of biota on the appearance of new species in communities and on the impact of some anthropogenic factors are analyzed. Characteristics of the Black Sea plankton bioluminescents and the bioluminescence field forming by them in neritic zone of Crimea are shown. Lists of species of main groups of flora and fauna from the different regions of near-shore waters of Crimea are made.

Introduction. Modern hydrology of the Hadzhibeysky estuary is due to natural and anthropogenic factors and characterized by their intense economic use. Since the beginning of the last century, there was an intense discharge of municipal waters from Odessa (biological treatment plant "North"). This led to a significant increase in the levels of water in the estuary, which threatened to destroy the dam that separates the estuary from the sea, with the possible flooding of residential areas and enterprises of the Peresip area, as well as the road, on the dam, especially in disastrously high water years. Purpose. The purpose problems – are estimation of filling the closed estuaries-reservoirs in north-west area of the Black sea and long–term forecasting of their condition during the spring period of year. The first task – an analysis of conditions of the Hadzhibeysky estuary in the presence of an exceptional spring flood and rain floods of exceedance probability (P = 1%). The second task – is to develop a methodology for the long-term forecasting of filling of the Hadzhibeysky estuary during the spring flood, which is the most abundant phase in the hydrological regime into the territory. Results. For the first time, the possibility of assessing the filling degree surface water from melting snow and rainfall when the estimated probability of exceeding P=1% in the closed estuaries-reservoirs of the Black Sea areas. The method of the long-term forecast of surface water during the spring period for the closed estuaries was substantiated. Typification of spring floods in accordance with their water content according to the model – discriminant function DF, which takes account of the complex of factors having an influence upon conditions of spring flood formation. Setting the probability of occurrence of the forecasting flow layers in the long-term period are implemented. Conclusion. This method allows risk assessment for sustainable land – and water use planning within the Black Sea estuaries. The method of the long-term forecast was realized by the author in operational work at the Hydrometeorological Center of the Black and Azov Seas.

Purpose. Assessing changes in the oxygen regime of the deep-water part of the Black Sea under the influence of climatic and anthropogenic factors over the past 40 years is the goal of the work. Methods and Results. For the analysis, the expedition data (2015–2019) and those from the Databank of the Marine Hydrophysical Institute, Russian Academy of Sciences, (1980–2013) were used. The data for the deep-water part of the Black Sea (the depths exceeding 200 m) were selected from the array. The data on hydrophysical and hydrochemical parameters were subjected to expert assessment, and those including random errors in the values were excluded from the array. Then the average profiles of temperature, salinity, oxygen concentration, oxygen saturation, and nitrates concentration were plotted in the density scale (σt). Averaging was carried out by the inverse distance method followed by additional smoothing by the low-frequency filtering method. Conclusions. Against the background of the tendency of temperature increase in the upper layers of the water column and decrease of winter convective mixing intensity, the oxygen supply diminishes in all the layers of the Black Sea aerobic zone. Having been analyzed, the data for the 1980–2019 period showed that at the present stage, a “regime shift” resulting from the joint effect of climate changes and anthropogenic load took place in the ecosystem of the deep-water part of the Black Sea. Decrease in the oxygen saturation of water throughout the entire thickness of the aerobic zone shows that the process of the Black Sea basin eutrophication constitutes a significant factor affecting oxygen dynamics in the Black Sea waters.

In the autumn-spring periods 2018 - 2020. biotesting of water and bottom sediments of the lower Dniester and Ukrainian coastal waters of the Dniester region of the Black Sea was carried out by biotesting on a laboratory culture of planktonic algae Desmodesmus communis. The assessment of the ecological and toxicological situation and a comparative analysis of indicators of the level of pollution of the ecosystem of the “lower reaches of the Dniester” testify to the chronic pollution of this ecosystem by dangerous toxicants, acute toxicity occurs only during peak periods, while chronic toxicity is constantly manifested. It was found that in the overwhelming majority of water areas with different nature of anthropogenic factors and anthropogenic load, there were no toxic substances. Hazardous pollutants were more often found in the surface water layer of the zones affected by urban wastewaters on the Ukrainian coast of the Dniester region of the Black Sea.

Among all the natural resources available in Odesa Region vacationists prefer beaches and associated entertainments. Quality and general ecological condition of the beaches in addition to the potential and actual beach capacity are key factors for tourist flow to Odesa Region and its socio-economic development. In order to substantiate the recreational and tourist development of the territory an economic and logistic evaluation of its resource base should be carried out. This will make it possible to determine an input tourist flow which dictates the volumes of required tourist infrastructure and material and technical facilities. The purpose of this study is to evaluate recreational potential of Odesa Region’s beach zones. To achieve this, all main natural and anthropogenic factors determining the recreational potential of the coastal zone were analyzed. The study is also based on scientific researches in the field of recreational and tourist activities made by well-known experts, on the existing regulatory frameworks and results of the authors' own research works. For the first time, recreational capacity and logistic potential of Odesa Region’s beach zones were estimated. Based on this estimation multiple conclusions about the most promising areas for future development of the recreation sector were made. It was determined that favorable climatic conditions, considerable length of beaches and other natural and recreational resources allow us to speak about good prospects of the Odesa Region’s coastal zone for various forms of recreation including thalassotherapy. In fact, thalassotherapy opportunity (first of all, beach recreation) is a very important factor of attractiveness for vacationists visiting the Odesa Region’s coastal zone. According to our research, Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi, Tatarbunarskyi and Lymanskyi districts are the most promising ones for recreational development. The total capacity of the beaches here even exceeds the districts' own population. Conducted recreational zoning of the Odesa’s Black Sea coast established that, based on the natural recreational factors, out of 9 recreational microdistricts only 3 of them may be classified as favorable, with 5 being relatively favorable and 1 – completely unfavorable. But, from the perspective of sea water quality, some microdistricts (Luzanivskyi and Arkadiyskyi) do not meet sanitary standards during the period of intense precipitation. It was found that there is a need for expansion of beach areas as well as a need for regulation and redistribution of the recreational and tourist flow. In order to increase recreational attractiveness of Odesa Region, regional and city administrations should pay more attention to the ecological conditions of beach areas of the Black Sea coast. The obtained results may be used by the Department of Culture and Tourism of the Odesa Regional State Administration, divisions of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine in order to assess the recreational potential of the Odesa Region’s beach areas.
