Teachers’ Conceptions About STEM and Their Practical Knowledge for STEM Teaching in Hong Kong

Social remittances (ideas, system practice, and social capital flow from the receiving country to the home country) of Indonesian female migrant workers (BMP) in Hong Kong appeared better and more complete than other BMP in other countries like Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, or Singapore.  Based on that research, we are encouraged to do extensive research in order to identify factors  that push  BMP’s social remittances development  in Hong Kong, to identify kinds of social remmitances they receive  and to understand on how far their social remittances become a medium to empower them and their society.  This study is done in qualitative method that uses an in-depth interview technique and FGD.  Subjects of study are BMP, the government (Ministry of Manpower and Transmigration and BNP2TKI), NGOs, migrant workers’ organization and researchers of BMP. The study done in Cianjur (West Java), Wonosobo and Banyumas (Central Java) and Hong Kong indicates that during their migration process, female migrant workers not only have economical remittance that can be used for productive activities, but also social remittances.  The social remittances are in the form practical knowledge such as language skill and nursery; knowledge on health, financial management; ethical work; the mindset changing and networking. The study  indicate that female migrant workers are extraordinary women more than just an ex-helper.  Their migration has put them into a position as an agent of development in society.Key words: Indonesians  female migrant workers, social remmitances, empowerment

<p>Using <em>pedagogical design capacity (PDC)</em> as the conceptual framework, this single-case study examines how an English teacher in Hong Kong perceives and mobilizes curriculum materials to teach reading comprehension to secondary one students in two stages of implementation. Relying on data collected from semi-structured interviews, lesson observations, and analysis of curriculum materials, the study sought to uncover the underlying teacher knowledge at work when the teacher interacts with the curriculum materials. The findings show that knowledge of curriculum materials, personal practical knowledge, and knowledge of learners play an important role in making teachers more adept at using curriculum materials. Ultimately, the paper concludes with implications both theoretical and practical: The expansion of PDC framework and support to English teachers’ use of school-based curriculum materials.</p>

The article addresses the crucial aspects of rising need for actual onshore funding in RMB through panda bonds or other potential options, such as direct loans from local banks or fully funded swaps in RMB. The features of onshore and offshore funding for multinational companies are examined. Many international corporates, financials and multilateral institutions already have Asian currencies embedded in their issuance programs. A lot of them have significant economic ties to China. The outstanding volume of China’s bond market has surpassed RMB 70,4 trillion (approximately USD 10,6 trillion) in the August 2017, making in the third largest in the world. Significant changes in the structure of such issues are the subject of analysis carried out. Theoretically substantiated the role and place of RMB in the development of China’s bond market. With the inclusion of RMB into the SDR basket and ongoing market-based reform of the RMB exchange rate regime, China’s bond market will continue to attract interest from foreign issuers. The conclusion of the author : internationalization of yuan reflects the efforts to make the domestic bond market more accessible and attractive to foreign issuers and investors, meanwhile boosted by continuous progress on the pilot program of panda bonds, an expanding pool of practical knowledge, and more sophisticated systems and rules, the panda bond market is expected to achieve more progress in the competition with Hong Kong for offshore RMB funding through traditional dim-sum market.
