Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to identify and develop the structural relationship among the key drivers to control and enhance the supply management (SM) performance in Indian manufacturing environment. Design/methodology/approach – The drivers (i.e. sourcing alternatives and supplier selection, supplier development (SD), contract management (CM) and risk management (RM)) of SM were identified and SM integration model was proposed through literature review and in consultation with industry experts. The proposed model was validated by capturing experts’ view in Indian manufacturing environment. The strength of relationships between these drivers and on SM performance was also established using structural equation modeling. Findings – CM has positive direct effect on SM performance and two drivers (i.e. sourcing alternatives and supplier selection, and SD) have positive indirect effect mediated by CM. Whereas, RM has direct and indirect (mediated by CM) positive effect on SM performance in Indian manufacturing environment. Research limitations/implications – This model can be validated for manufacturing industries in other countries. Practical implications – This model provides a comprehensive relationship among four drivers of SM and shows the direction for designing and implementing appropriate policies in order to enhance the SM performance in Indian manufacturing environment. Originality/value – Although many issues related to SM have been widely researched, but no literature has been reported related to SM integration model consisting of its drivers in general and in Indian manufacturing environment in specific. The key drivers of SM were identified and their relative importance was analyzed in Indian manufacturing environment.

Purpose – Supplier selection studies have used a wide variety of supplier evaluation criteria, due to the diversity of the purchasing context. The purpose of this study is to identify the critical supplier selection criteria which are important across industries and across purchasing contexts, and subsequently estimate the importance of these criteria to the procurement practitioners. Design/methodology/approach – First, a Delphi study has been conducted to identify the critical supplier selection criteria across manufacturing industries. Then, data were collected from 188 firms across 12 industries and analysed with fuzzy analytic hierarchy process for group decision making, to estimate the relative importance of these criteria. Findings – Findings indicate that seven criteria are of critical importance to Indian manufacturing industries. Also evaluation criteria like product quality, delivery compliance and price have maximum criticality, while criterion like e-transaction capability is gaining in importance, with the increased adoption of e-procurement platforms. Research limitations/implications – The study has been conducted in India, while focusing on Indian manufacturing industries. Similar study conducted in developed economies may produce different results. Practical implications – Findings will be useful for practitioners for benchmarking supplier selection processes, not only in India, but also in similar emerging economies. Also, the outcome will provide insights for suppliers for developing systemic improvements. Originality/value – There has been no study in recent years which has attempted to estimate the importance of supplier selection criteria, while taking a multi-industry approach. This study identifies the critical evaluation criteria and estimates their relative importance to procurement experts.

In the past few decades, there has been lot of focus on the issue of sustainability. This has occurred due to the growing concerns related to climate change and the growing awareness about environmental concerns. Also, the competition at global level has led to the search for the most sustainable route in the industries. The current research work deals with the selection of green supplier in a Nickle coating industry based on certain weighted green attributes. For this purpose, a hybrid tool comprising of Fuzzy AHP (Fuzzy Analytical Hierarchy) and VIKOR (VlseKriterijumska Optimizacija I Kompromisno Resenje) is used. The Fuzzy AHP is used for assigning proper weights to the selected criteria for supplier evaluation, while VIKOR is used for final supplier selection based on the weighted criteria. The three criterions for green supplier selection are, Ecological packaging, Corporate socio-environmental responsibility and Staff Training. The outcome of the integrated model may serve as a steppingstone to other SMEs in different sectors for selecting the most suitable supplier for addressing the sustainability issue.
