AbstractAn engineering-geological map of the Western Thessaly basin has been compiled, providing a valuable guide to both urban planning and industrial development of the wider area. This map contributes significantly to the optimization of land use and improved planning of technical work. Additionally, the engineering-geological conditions of the formations encountered in the Western Thessaly basin are examined. The formations are grouped into thirteen (13) engineering-geological entities, with regard to their geotechnical behaviour. This entire study was based on both in situ investigations and geotechnical information extracted from 1,039 boreholes.Furthermore, a landslide inventory map of the Western Thessaly basin has been compiled. In addition, the surface subsidence ruptures, due to ground-water overexploitation, have been examined in the eastern part of the study area.

Abstract. This study tests a novel methodology to add value to satellite datasets. This methodology, data fusion, is similar to data assimilation, except that the background model-based field is replaced by a satellite dataset, in this case AIRS (Atmospheric Infrared Sounder) carbon monoxide (CO) measurements. The observational information comes from CO measurements with lower spatial coverage than AIRS, namely, from TES (Tropospheric Emission Spectrometer) and MLS (Microwave Limb Sounder). We show that combining these datasets with data fusion uses the higher spectral resolution of TES to extend AIRS CO observational sensitivity to the lower troposphere, a region especially important for air quality studies. We also show that combined CO measurements from AIRS and MLS provide enhanced information in the UTLS (upper troposphere/lower stratosphere) region compared to each product individually. The combined AIRS/TES and AIRS/MLS CO products are validated against DACOM (differential absorption mid-IR diode laser spectrometer) in situ CO measurements from the INTEX-B (Intercontinental Chemical Transport Experiment: MILAGRO and Pacific phases) field campaign and in situ data from HIPPO (HIAPER Pole-to-Pole Observations) flights. The data fusion results show improved sensitivities in the lower and upper troposphere (20–30% and above 20%, respectively) as compared with AIRS-only retrievals, and improved coverage compared with TES and MLS CO data.

Abstract. Developing a big data analytics framework for generating a Long-term Gap-free High-resolution Air Pollutants concentration dataset (abbreviated as LGHAP) is of great significance for environmental management and earth system science analysis. By synergistically integrating multimodal aerosol data acquired from diverse sources via a tensor flow based data fusion method, a gap-free aerosol optical depth (AOD) dataset with daily 1-km resolution covering the period of 2000–2020 in China was generated. Specifically, data gaps in daily AOD imageries from MODIS aboard Terra were reconstructed based on a set of AOD data tensors acquired from satellites, numerical analysis, and in situ air quality data via integrative efforts of spatial pattern recognition for high dimensional gridded image analysis and knowledge transfer in statistical data mining. To our knowledge, this is the first long-term gap-free high resolution AOD dataset in China, from which spatially contiguous PM2.5 and PM10 concentrations were estimated using an ensemble learning approach. Ground validation results indicate that the LGHAP AOD data are in a good agreement with in situ AOD observations from AERONET, with R of 0.91 and RMSE equaling to 0.21. Meanwhile, PM2.5 and PM10 estimations also agreed well with ground measurements, with R of 0.95 and 0.94 and RMSE of 12.03 and 19.56 μg m−3, respectively. Overall, the LGHAP provides a suite of long-term gap free gridded maps with high-resolution to better examine aerosol changes in China over the past two decades, from which three distinct variation periods of haze pollution were revealed in China. Additionally, the proportion of population exposed to unhealthy PM2.5 was increased from 50.60 % in 2000 to 63.81 % in 2014 across China, which was then drastically reduced to 34.03 % in 2020. Overall, the generated LGHAP aerosol dataset has a great potential to trigger multidisciplinary applications in earth observations, climate change, public health, ecosystem assessment, and environmental management. <p>Complementary to ocean state estimate provided by modelling/assimilation systems, a multi observations-based approach is available through the MULTI OSERVATIONS (MULTIOBS) Thematic Assembly Center (TAC) of the European Copernicus Marine Environment Monitoring Service (CMEMS).</p><p>CMEMS MULTIOBS TAC proposes products based on satellite & in situ observations and state-of-the-art data fusion techniques. These products are fully qualified and documented and, are distributed through the CMEMS catalogue (http://marine.copernicus.eu/services-portfolio). They cover the global ocean for physical and biogeochemical (BGC) variables. They are available in Near-Real-Time (NRT) or as Multi-Year Products (MYP) for the past 28 to 36 years.</p><p>Satellite input observations include altimetry but also sea surface temperature, sea surface salinity as well as ocean color. In situ observations of physical and BGC variables are from autonomous platform such as Argo, moorings and ship-based measurements. Data fusion techniques are based on multiple linear regression method, multidimensional optimal interpolation method or neural networks.</p><p>MULTIOBS TAC provides the following products at global scale:</p><ul><li>3D temperature, salinity and geostrophic current fields, both in NRT and as MYP;</li> <li>2D sea surface salinity and sea surface density fields, both in NRT and as MYP;</li> <li>2D total surface and near-surface currents, both in NRT and as MYP;</li> <li>3D vertical current as MYP;</li> <li>2D surface carbon fields of CO<sub>2</sub> flux (fgCO<sub>2</sub>), pCO<sub>2</sub> and pH as MYP;</li> <li>Nutrient vertical distribution (including nitrate, phosphate and silicate) profiles as MYP;</li> <li>3D Particulate Organic Carbon (POC) and Chlorophyll-a (Chl-a) fields as MYP.</li> </ul><p>Furthermore, MULTIOBS TAC provides specific Ocean Monitoring Indicators (OMIs), based on the above products, to monitor the global ocean 3D hydrographic variability patterns (water masses) and the global ocean carbon sink.</p>

O estudo do comportamento da infiltração na sub-bacia do Rio Maracanã buscou o entendimento do comportamento da infiltração da água na sub-bacia do Rio Maracanã, onde foram realizados teste de infiltração in situ com infiltrômetro de duplo anel, associado aos conhecimentos geológicos-geotécnicos da área que subsidiou a elaboração da Carta de susceptibilidade a infiltração da água no solo da sub-bacia do Rio Maracanã utilizando o método de krigagem. As áreas de recarga estão severamente impactadascom baixa susceptibilidade à infiltração em decorrência do intensivo uso e ocupação. Esse comportamento paulatinamente atinge severamente a biodiversidade local. A melhoria da qualidade de vida na sub-bacia do Rio Maracanã depende de um planejamento municipal, principalmente no uso e ocupação do solo e das diversas atividades humanas realizadas na área.Palavras-chave: Infiltração. In situ RNA capturing has made it possible to record histology and spatial gene expression from the same tissue section. Here, we introduce a method that combines data from both modalities to infer super-resolved full-transcriptome expression maps. Our method unravels transcriptional heterogeneity in micrometer-scale anatomical features and enables image-based in silico spatial transcriptomics without hybridization or sequencing.
