AbstractRecommendations are made for standard potentials involving select inorganic radicals in aqueous solution at 25 °C. These recommendations are based on a critical and thorough literature review and also by performing derivations from various literature reports. The recommended data are summarized in tables of standard potentials, Gibbs energies of formation, radical pKa’s, and hemicolligation equilibrium constants. In all cases, current best estimates of the uncertainties are provided. An extensive set of Data Sheets is appended that provide original literature references, summarize the experimental results, and describe the decisions and procedures leading to each of the recommendations.

We evaluated the feasibility of endovascular embolization for the management of distal anterior choroidal artery (AChA) aneurysms associated with moyamoya disease and performed a literature review to summarize their clinical features and treatment. We describe two cases of moyamoya disease-associated distal AChA aneurysms treated by endovascular embolization. In both cases, a good outcome was observed. We performed a MEDLINE (1980–2010) search which identified 13 similar cases. Our analysis of the clinical data from these 15 cases led us to conclude that (i) endovascular embolization is an effective and feasible treatment for distal AChA aneurysms associated with moyamoya disease; (ii) aneurysm location and the preservation of the parent artery are two major prognostic factors for moyamoya disease-associated distal AChA aneurysms subjected to craniotomy or endovascular therapy; (iii) the parent artery should be preserved when the aneurysm is located in the temporal horn of the lateral ventricle, but sacrificed when it is located in the trigone of the lateral ventricle.

Orbital AVFs, abnormal vascular connections between orbital arteries and veins, are extremely rare. Often traumatic, few reports of spontaneous orbital fistulas have been reported so far. Treatment is warranted for deteriorating visual symptoms, but obliteration of the fistula can be challenging. We present such a case that symptomatically mirrored a carotid cavernous fistula. A novel approach was used by traversing a thrombosed superior ophthalmic vein to embolize the lesion. In addition, a complete literature review is presented.

In this technical report, the authors present a content analysis of state guidance on remote learning from the 2019-20 school year. As schools across the country closed in response to COVID-19, state education agencies (SEAs) developed guidance for use by districts on how to ensure the continuation of education during the pandemic. The described analysis applied an equity framework that was developed based on concepts drawn from a literature review to examine the extent to which SEAs addressed issues of equity in their remote learning recommendations. The analysis revealed variation in the extent to which states explicitly focused on equity in their guidance. The analysis also identified exemplar states that encouraged local educators to keep equity at the forefront of their planning.

Computerized auditory training (CAT) is a convenient, low-cost approach to improving communication of individuals with hearing loss or other communicative disorders. A number of CAT programs are being marketed to patients and audiologists. The present literature review is an examination of evidence for the effectiveness of CAT in improving speech perception in adults with hearing impairments. Six current CAT programs, used in 9 published studies, were reviewed. In all 9 studies, some benefit of CAT for speech perception was demonstrated. Although these results are encouraging, the overall quality of available evidence remains low, and many programs currently on the market have not yet been evaluated. Thus, caution is needed when selecting CAT programs for specific patients. It is hoped that future researchers will (a) examine a greater number of CAT programs using more rigorous experimental designs, (b) determine which program features and training regimens are most effective, and (c) indicate which patients may benefit from CAT the most.

AbstractPurpose: The purpose of this article is to inform speech-language pathologists in the schools about issues related to the care of children with traumatic brain injury.Method: Literature review of characteristics, outcomes and issues related to the needs serving children.Results: Due to acquired changes in cognition, children with traumatic brain injury have unique needs in a school setting.Conclusions: Speech-Language Pathologists in the school can take a leadership role with taking care of children after a traumatic brain injury and coordination of medical and educational information.
