AbstractThis article is part of a series with the aim of classifying all non-hyperoctahedral categories of two-colored partitions. Those constitute by some Tannaka-Krein type result the representation categories of a specific class of quantum groups. In Part I we introduced a class of parameters which gave rise to many new non-hyperoctahedral categories of partitions. In the present article we show that this class actually contains all possible parameter values of all non-hyperoctahedral categories of partitions. This is an important step towards the classification of all non-hyperoctahedral categories.

Abstract The use of a narrative imperfect in Am 7:10–17 after 7:1–9 and the abrupt shift to 8:1–3 frequently compelled critics to determine its literary form. For diachronic studies defining classifications include ‘third-party report’ and ‘apophthegma’. By contrast, synchronic studies emphasize the contextual integration of Am 7:10–17 and concentrate on a narrative analysis. Within this focus it is striking, that the passage is often associated with a ‘drama’ but without assessing the methodological ramifications of such a claim. The present article takes this ‘synchronic gap’ up and relates it to approaches to view drama as a possible genre for prophetic books. In doing so, a reading of Am 7:10–17 as part of a narrator-mediated discourse using a dramatic mode shows that the passage can be deemed an entrance with three speeches integrated into the wider context of 7:1–8:3. Particularly the classification of 7:10a, 12aα, 14aα as narrator’s discourse using a dramatic mode makes this claim plausible.

Abstract The present article examines the claim in the literature that the negative first principle, i.e. the preference for the order negation-verb to verb-negation, is stronger in negative imperatives (or prohibitives) than in negative declaratives. To test this hypothesis, we develop – in contrast to earlier research – a systematic, three-way classification of languages, which is also operationalized as a ranking capturing the overall level of strength of the principle. This classification is applied to a genealogically and geographically balanced sample of 179 languages. In addition, we consider the role of several factors known to correlate with the position of negation – like its form, constituent order and areality. However, no cross-linguistic evidence is found for any difference in negation’s position between negative imperatives and negative declaratives. We therefore conclude that the hypothesis should be rejected.

Barlow and Proschan presented some interesting connections between univariate classifications of life distributions and partial orderings where equivalent definitions for increasing failure rate (IFR), increasing failure rate average (IFRA), and new better than used (NBU) classes were given in terms of convex, star-shaped, and superadditive orderings. Some related results are given by Ross and Shaked and Shanthikumar. The introduction of a multivariate generalization of partial orderings is the object of the present article. Based on that concept of multivariate partial orderings, we also propose multivariate classifications of life distributions and present a study on more IFR-ness.

The current international road standards, in order to give organization and safety, promote the classification of roads according to their technical and functional characteristics beyond their administrative membership, but the procedures are yet strongly based on the expertise’s judgment. In fact, although this activity has a great importance for the consequences that produces in terms of responsibility and allocation of economic resources, it is solely based on the quantification of some variables without specifying methods or analytical procedures. In this paper, after an instrumental survey of the road environment, we applied data mining techniques that consider the ‘vagueness’ of the analysed scenario. The type of algorithms used, therefore, permits to quantify a degree of membership (among 0 and 1) of a road to the groupings provided and to prepare any corrective action in order to direct the final result towards a specific class with greater precision. In addition, this method is very flexible and willing to contain new variables or observations at different times with great easiness. Moreover, the geographical location of the individual observations, as it was done also in this research, can be transferred to a GIS system, with a positive impact on maintenance programs.

We introduce here a mathematical procedure for the structural classification of a specific class of self-assembling protein nanoparticles (SAPNs) that are used as a platform for repetitive antigen display systems. These SAPNs have distinctive geometries as a consequence of the fact that their peptide building blocks are formed from two linked coiled coils that are designed to assemble into trimeric and pentameric clusters. This allows a mathematical description of particle architectures in terms of bipartite (3,5)-regular graphs. Exploiting the relation with fullerene graphs, we provide a complete atlas of SAPN morphologies. The classification enables a detailed understanding of the spectrum of possible particle geometries that can arise in the self-assembly process. Moreover, it provides a toolkit for a systematic exploitation of SAPNs in bioengineering in the context of vaccine design, predicting the density of B-cell epitopes on the SAPN surface, which is critical for a strong humoral immune response.
