AbstractIn this article, we revisit the question of analysing the efficiencies of partially entangled states in three-qubit classes under real conditions. Our results show some interesting observations regarding the efficiencies and correlations of partially entangled states. Surprisingly, we find that the efficiencies of many three-qubit partially entangled states exceed that of maximally entangled three-qubit states under real noisy conditions and applications of weak measurements. Our analysis, therefore, suggests that the efficiencies of partially entangled states are much more robust to noise than those of maximally entangled states at least for the GHZ (Greenberger–Horne–Zeilinger) class states, for certain protocols; i.e. less correlations in the initially prepared state may also lead to better efficiency and hence one need not always consider starting with a maximally entangled state with maximum correlations between the qubits. For a set of partially entangled states, we find that the efficiency is optimal, independent of the decoherence and state parameters, if the value of weak measurement parameter is very large. For other values of the weak measurement parameter, the robustness of the states depends on the decoherence and state parameters. Moreover, we further show that one can achieve higher efficiencies in a protocol by using non-optimal weak measurement strengths instead of optimal weak measurement strengths.

Teleportation of quantum gates using partially entangled states is considered. Different from the known probability schemes, we propose and study a method for teleporting a prototypical single-qubit rotation on a remote receiver with unit fidelity and unit probability by using two partially entangled pairs. The method is applicable to any two partially entangled pairs satisfying the condition that their smaller Schmidt coefficients γ and η are (2γ+2η-2γη-1)≥0. In our scheme, the sender's local generalized measurement described by a positive operator-valued measurement (POVM) lies at the heart. We construct the required POVM. The fact that the controlled teleportation of single-qubit rotation could be realized exactly using two partially entangled pairs is also notable. A sender could teleport a rotation on a remote receiver, an arbitrary one of the two receivers, via the control of the other in a network.

In this chapter, nested multilevel entanglement is formulated and discussed in terms of Matryoshka states. The generation of such states that contain nested patterns of entanglement, based on an anisotropic XY model has been proposed. Two classes of multilevel-entanglement- the Matryoshka Q-GHZ states and Matryoshka generalised GHZ states, are studied. Potential applications of such resource states, such as for quantum teleportation of arbitrary one, two and three qubits states, bidirectional teleportation of arbitrary two qubit states and probabilistic circular controlled teleportation are proposed and discussed, in terms of a Matryoshka state over seven qubits. We also discuss fractal network protocols, surface codes and graph states as well as generation of arbitrary entangled states at remote locations in this chapter.

We present sufficient criteria for the entanglement of three-qubit states. For some special families of states, the criteria are also necessary for the entanglement. They are formulated as simple sets of inequalities for the mean values of certain observables defined as tensor products of Pauli matrices. The criteria are good indicators of the entanglement in the vicinity of three-qubit GHZ and W states and enjoy the capability of detecting the entangled states with positive partial transpositions. Furthermore, they improve the best known result for the case of W state mixed with the white noise. The efficiency of the criteria is illustrated through several examples.
