Abstract A new species of the diverse and widely distributed symbiotic copepod genus Asterocheres is described from the sea star Nidorellia armata (Gray, 1840) in Mexican waters of the Eastern Tropical Pacific. The new species resembles various other congeners by sharing several characters including: (1) a siphon extending to the intersection of the maxilliped, (2) a 21-segmented antennule, and (3) a 2-segmented mandible palp. It can be distinguished by the unique structure and ornamentation of the maxilla, the armature and proportions of the fifth leg, and its body shape. This is the first documented record of Asterocheres from the Mexican Pacific and the first finding of a symbiotic copepod on this sea star host. Males, ovigerous females and copepodites were recorded from the host, thus suggesting a well-established symbiotic association. It is likely that copepods feed on the host’s tegument. Further studies will be needed to assess the reproductive traits and seasonality of this copepod as a symbiont.

A new species of Mysidium from the eastern tropical Pacific, Mexico, is described, representing the second species of this genus described for the Pacific Ocean and the eighth species reported worldwide. Mysidium pumae sp. nov. is distinguished from the other species of the genus by several characters including: the lanceolate appendix masculina, 3× as long as wide, tapering distally, with a distal tuft of 16 setae and an inner proximal tuft of more than 30 setae, the male pleopod 4 with endopod bearing 3 setae, the exopod with 4 articles, the modified seta from article 3 of the exopod bifid, telson 2.3× as long as wide, distally concave. A table with the main differences among all the known species in the genus is provided.

A new species of the hermit crab genus Paguristes, P. haigae n. sp., is described and illustrated from material collected in the Gulf of California, Mexico. Paguristes haigae n. sp. closely resembles P. tortugae Schmitt, 1933, from the western Atlantic and P. aztatlanensis Glassell, 1937 and P. oculiviolaceous Glassell, 1937, both previously known from the eastern tropical Pacific. Paguristes aztatlanensis features a proportionally much longer shield than P. haigae n. sp., an acute rostrum, longer than in P. haigae n. sp, and its ocular peduncle is proportionally shorter than in the new species; pereopods 2 and 3 are proportionally longer in P. aztatlanensis than in P. haigae n. sp. and third maxilliped of P. haigae n. sp. is armed while it is unarmed in P. aztatlanensis. P. oculiviolaceous posseses a relatively much longer antennule than P. haigae and the armature of the carpus of chelipeds varies in these two species. Paguristes haigae n. sp also shows somewhat resemblance to P. bakeri Holmes, 1900 and P. holmesi Glassell, 1937, but these two species have the anterior lobules of the telson unarmed while it is armed with 2–4 spines in P. haigae n. sp.

Tetralobistes gen. nov., a presently monotypic genus of hermit crab of the family Diogenidae, is described to accommodate a new species, Tetralobistes bicentenarius sp. nov. In many characters, Tetralobistes gen. nov. is similar to Areopaguristes Rahayu & McLaughlin, 2010, Paguristes Dana, 1851, and Pseudopaguristes Mclaughlin, 2002. However, it differs most significantly in the morphology of the male first pleopods and lacks male second and female first pleopods. The most conspicuous character separating Tetralobistes gen. nov. from the other three genera is the shape of the telson, with a typical subdivided (four-lobes) posterior margin.
