AbstractCopris incertus Say, 1835 (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae: Scarabaeinae: Coprini) has been described as a New World coprophagous scarab distributed from Mexico to Ecuador with large discontinuities in its range between the Yucatán province and Costa Rica. The C. incertus species complex of the Copris minutus (Drury, 1773) species group consists of C. incertus, Copris laeviceps Harold, 1869, and Copris lugubris Boheman, 1858. Based on external morphology and male genitalia, we discovered that multiple species have been classified as C. incertus. Of these species, five are new: Copris amazonicusnew species, Copris brevicornisnew species, Copris davidinew species, Copris moroninew species, and Copris susanaenew species. Herein, we revise the organisation of the C. incertus species complex and propose a new species complex, the C. laeviceps species complex, which includes: C. davidi, Copris igualensis Warner, 1990, and C. laeviceps, formerly included in the C. incertus species complex. We provide an identification key along with species distribution maps, images of habitus, and diagnostic characters.

A new species of Craugastor (Anura: Craugastoridae) from the montane rainforest of the Cordillera de Talamanca, Costa Rica. A new dirt frog of the Craugastor podiciferus Species Group is described from Costa Rica; it is restricted to elevations between 2330 and 2700 m a.s.l. in the montane rainforest of the Cordillera de Talamanca. Analysis of DNA sequences of the mitochondrial 16S rRNA (16S) and cytochrome oxidase I (COI) genes reveals a distinct lineage within the C. podiciferus Species Group. Additional morphological and morphometric analyses support the distinctiveness of this lineage that is described as a new species herein. The species is distinguished from other members of the C. podiciferus Species Group by its unique coloration: a violet-brown to blackish brown venter with white pigment forming blotches, and dark brown palmar surfaces with prominent white folds between subarticular tubercles in the adults. The genetic divergence of the species from other members of the C. podiciferus Species Group is signifcant (higher than 9.2% in 16S and 13.3% in COI). Although not closely related, it resembles C. podiciferus morphologically, a species that also inhabits montane rainforest. The discovery of this new species highlights the importance of montane rainforest as a center of species richness and endemism.

We review the systematics of the Dendrophidion nuchale complex in Central America and northern South America andrecognize three species. The names D. nuchale (W. Peters) and D. clarkii Dunn apply to two of the species. The third isdescribed as a new species, D. rufiterminorum. It differs from D. clarkii and D. nuchale in coloration and hemipenial char-acters but all three species of the nuchale complex are very similar in scutellation characters. Dendrophidion nuchale isdistributed in the coast ranges and adjacent foothills of northern Venezuela, and in a seemingly disjunct population in theSerranía de Perijá in western Venezuela. The name clarkii was recently applied to all populations of the nuchale complexfrom Belize and Guatemala in the north to western Colombia and Ecuador in the south. Herein, we restrict the name D.clarkii to populations in lower Middle America (Costa Rica and Panama) and west of the Andes in Colombia and Ecuador.Dendrophidion rufiterminorum is distributed in northern Central America (Belize, Guatemala, northern Honduras) fol-lowed by a broad disjunction without records of the species throughout most of Honduras and Nicaragua; thereafter, a fewspecimens and photographs document the presence of D. rufiterminorum on the Caribbean versant of southern Nicaraguaand Costa Rica, and uplands of northwestern Costa Rica (Pacific versant). Two localities of sympatry between D. rufiter-minorum and D. clarkii are known in Costa Rica (one on the Atlantic versant, the other on Pacific versant). Nonetheless,there is sparse documentation of either species in Costa Rica. The populations referred to D. clarkii in southwestern CostaRica, the eastern half of Panama, and western Colombia and Ecuador need further study. Hemipenes of species of thenuchale complex are described. All three species have a pair of enormously enlarged sulcate spines and a regular lineararray of enlarged spines (spinose annulus) encircling the base of the apical region. These characters are also shared with D. dendrophis sensu lato but not other members of the dendrophis species group.

The genus Lissochlora was described by Warren (1900) and revised by Pitkin (1993) with respect to the fauna of Costa Rica. Lissochlora has a small spur or kink to its aedeagus and is distinguished from related genera by the absence of basal costal process of the valva in the male genitalia, which is present in Nemoria Hübner, Rhodochlora Warren and Paromphacodes Warren (Pitkin 1993, 1996). Paromphacodes, Lissochlora and Nemoria cluster together, sharing a bilobed eighth sternite and the presence of a costal sclerite or ornamentation on the valva (Viidalepp 2017). Usually species of Lissochlora have a shorter uncus in the male genitalia than that of related genera, and the last abdominal sternite of the male is usually shorter than the corresponding tergite (Viidalepp 2017).

A new species of Aleurodicus Douglas is described from Costa Rica. It is a serious pest of plantation bananas in low-altitude areas of Limón Province. A single population from an orchid plant in high altitude montane forest differs in several respects, but is thought to be conspecific and is discussed in detail. This new species is discussed in relation to two similar species which together form the distinctive A. niveus Martin species-group.

A new species of Roeboides is described from the Pacific slope of Costa Rica and Panama. Roeboides bussingi differs from all other Central American Roeboides and all members of the R. guatemalensis species group by the following combination of characters: presence of 18-22 scales above the lateral line (vs. 12-16 in R. dientito); 15-22 scales below the lateral line (vs. 10-14 in R. dientito, and 20-24 in R. loftini); an inconspicuous, sometimes absent, crescent-shaped humeral spot (vs. a large round, conspicuous humeral spot in R. carti, R. dayi, R. dientonito, R. ilseae, R. loftini,and R. occidentalis); a small wedge-shaped spot that does not reach the lateral line (vs. a large spot crossing the lateral line in R. guatemalensis); a teardrop shaped caudal spot (vs. caudal spot triangle shaped in R. bouchellei); and a dark band at the distal tip of the anal fin (vs. dark band absent in R. bouchellei). A key to all Middle American species of Roeboides is also presented

The first species ofDolichogenidea(Hymenoptera: Braconidae, Microgastrinae) with the second mediotergite broadly quadrate to rectangular are revised, and eight new species from Area de Conservación Guanacaste (ACG), Costa Rica are described, all authored by Fernandez-Triana & Boudreault:alejandromasisi,angelagonzalezae,carlosmanuelrodriguezi,genuarnunezi,josealfredohernandezi,melaniamunozae,rogerblancoi, andyeimycedenoae. A new species group (carlosmanuelrodriguezi) within the genus is proposed to accommodate those species, as well as additional undescribed species from the Neotropical region found in collections. All new species are found in rainforests (120–900 m) and all are parasitoids of Depressariidae (except for one species parasitizing Choreutidae). The unique shape of the second mediotergite and long ovipositor are features shared with thealejandromoraispecies group in the genusApanteles, an example of convergent evolution; both wasp groups also parasitize similar hosts in ACG.
