Abstract A fluorometric method has been developed for the quantitative determination of per cent sterols as cholesterol in egg noodles. Sterol is extracted with chloroform from a ground composite, and an aliquot is subjected to a Liebermann-Burchard reaction followed by fluorometric measurement. Seven collaborators obtained 98.5-101% recoveries of sterols, and the fluorometric determination of sterols as cholesterol is recommended for adoption as official, first action.

Abstract We report a sensitive fluorometric method of analysis of propoxyphene in biological materials. 4-Chloro-7-nitrobenzo-2,1,3-oxadiazole is reacted with propoxyphene to produce highly fluorescent derivatives, thus enabling quantitative determination of propoxyphene in whole blood, urine, or tissue after either therapeutic use or overdose.

Abstract A fluorometric method has been developed for the quantitative determination of aminacrine (USAN name for 9-aminoacridine) and its salts in a wide variety of drug preparations. Aminacrine is extracted with chloroform from basic solution, the chloroform is evaporated, and the residue is dissolved in acidic ethanol. Aminacrine is identified by thin layer chromatography; travel of sample and standard spots is compared under ultraviolet light. Aminacrine is confirmed by spraying the plate with a solution of antimony pentachloride in carbon tetrachloride to produce a yellow spot.
