This chapter includes some additional material on homotopies. In particular, for a smooth variety V, there exists an “inflation” homotopy, taking a simple point to the generic type of a small neighborhood of that point. This homotopy has an image that is properly a subset of unit vector V, and cannot be understood directly in terms of definable subsets of V. The image of this homotopy retraction has the merit of being contained in unit vector U for any dense Zariski open subset U of V. The chapter also proves the continuity of functions and homotopies using continuity criteria and constructs inflation homotopies before proving GAGA type results for connectedness. Additional results regarding the Zariski topology are given.

[ACCESS RESTRICTED TO THE UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI AT REQUEST OF AUTHOR.] This dissertation outlines several results about prime characteristic singularities for which the nilpotent part under the induced Frobenius action on local cohomology is either finite colength or the entire module, collectively referred to here as nilpotent singularities. First, we establish a sufficient condition for the finiteness of the Frobenius test exponent for a local ring and apply it to conclude that nilpotent singularities have finite Frobenius test exponent. In joint work with Jennifer Kenkel, Thomas Polstra, and Austyn Simpson, we show that under mild conditions nilpotent singularities descend and ascend along faithfully flat maps. Consequently, we then prove that the loci of primes which are weakly F-nilpotent and F-nilpotent are open in the Zariski topology for rings which are either F-finite or essentially of fiiite type over an excellent local ring.

Abstract We define the essential extension of a filter in the residuated lattice A associated to an ideal of L(A) and investigate its related properties. We prove the residuated lattice A is a Boolean algebra, G(RL)-algebra or MV -algebra if and only if the essential extension of {1} associated to A \ P is a Boolean filter, G-filter or MV -filter (for all P ∈ SpecA), respectively. Also, some properties of lattice of essential extensions are studied.

In this paper, we introduce the concept of topological gamma acts as a generalization of Zariski topology. Some topological properties of this topology are studied. Various algebraic properties of topological gamma acts have been discussed. We clarify the interplay between this topological space's properties and the algebraic properties of the gamma acts under consideration. Also, the relation between this topological space and (multiplication, cyclic) gamma act was discussed. We also study some separation axioms and the compactness of this topological space.

Abstract In this paper, we show there are strong relations between the algebraic properties of a graded commutative ring R and topological properties of open subsets of Zariski topology on the graded prime spectrum of R. We examine some algebraic conditions for open subsets of Zariski topology to become quasi-compact, dense, and irreducible. We also present a characterization for the radical of a graded ideal in R by using topological properties.
