In the course of the study, a 15-year-old female gray seal was trained to press a button after displaying an audio signal for 5 seconds and ignore similar audio signals of longer or shorter duration. The conducted research has demonstrated the ability of the experimental seal to reliably differentiate sound signals with a difference in sound duration of 3 seconds. Changes in the reaction time and behavior of the seal during the demonstration of sound stimuli with distinguishable and indistinguishable time ranges are described.

Alzheimer's disease is characterized by loss of cells and synapses in specific neural systems. The development of more effective therapies will depend on understanding the relationships between this pathology and the cognitive and behavioral impairments. In this review, focusing primarily on work in our laboratory, we will examine both classic and neuropeptide neurotransmitter systems and will discuss conceptual and methodological problems in relating clinical and biological measures.

Laying hens were rewarded for oviposition with 20 min access to feed under continuous and multiple reinforcement schedules. Oviposition times, laying performance, egg quality traits and behavior did not differ between experimental birds and yoked controls. Results are discussed in terms of associative and system constraints, as well as experimental procedures. Key words: Operant conditioning, oviposition, laying hens, behavior
