The surface topography errors of micro-EDM are mainly composed of surface roughness, surface waveness and so on. Research shows that the surface morphology provides a lot of useful information, which has serious influence on the friction and lubrication characteristics of the surface. However, for the micro-EDM surface topography evaluation problem, researchers have been using surface roughness parameters and evaluation method of mechanical process, which restrict the micro-EDM technology further development. On this account, the surface roughness parameters of micro-EDM have been deeply studied in this paper according to its technology characteristics and the surface morphology characteristics, therefore, the main researches and creative points are obtained, which the influence that the surface roughness of micro-EDM parts impact on their using performance is analyzed, and based on the surface morphology characteristics, some roughness evaluation parameters are given respectively according to peaks and valley, moreover, their numerical calculation are also gained.

In this paper, surface morphology characteristics of mechanical finishing (MF) and electrochemical mechanical finishing (ECMF) for 45# steel was investigated. The microcosmic geometry parameters were measured by Surfcorder SE-3H. Compared with original surface, the surface morphology characteristics of the workpiece machined by MF and ECMF have been analyzed with auto correlation function (ACF). The results show that there exist periodicity component in surface profile before and after finishing. The auto correlation curves of ECMF surface have a smaller average period compared with MF surface. The low-frequency component and the mean ripple peak distance of original surface profile are obviously decreased. Furthermore, the ripples and peak density are increased, ECFM have a higher efficiency compared with MF, and the surface roughness Ra is decreased from 0.231μm to 0.032μm in 1 minute. The results indicate that surface quality, material ratio of the profile and wear resistance machined by ECMF are improved obviously.

CBN wheel grinding performance on K9 glass is experimentally analyzed, which is using ultrasonic vibration assisted mechanical dressing, and dressing modes have different influences on grinding performance on the basis of the grinding surface morphology characteristics of K9 glass. The experimental results show that the CBN grinding wheel of vibration dressing mode has relatively large grinding ratio compared with ordinary dressing, and its microstructure on the grinding surface is strongly influenced by dressing modes and grinding speed.
