The influence of a hard coal type on the degree of sulphur dioxide removal In this paper the authors have studied the properties of zeolite and montmorillonite doped with the nickel and cobalt cations in the removal of SO2 from the combustion gases process based on the DESONOX method. Burning coal from the hard coal from the Silesian Coal Basin mine "Julian" and the Lubelskie Coal Basin mine "Bogdanka" with supports only - did not show any reduction of the SO2 emission in the combustion gases.

AbstractAmmonioalunite, ammoniojarosite and their solid-solution series found on a burning coal dump at Czerwionka, Upper Silesian Coal Basin, Poland, were examined using powder X-ray diffraction, electron probe microanalysis, inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry, infrared spectroscopy and thermal analysis methods. The minerals occur as yellow, fine-grained crusts and botryoidal masses in the outer part of a sulphate crust found ∼1 m below the surface. The crust is composed mainly of godovikovite and tschermigite that formed by interaction of sour fire gases or solutions and waste materials beneath the surface of the burning coal dump at temperatures of at least 80—100°C. The crystals often reveal oscillatory zoning due to different Al and Fe contents in thin bands, from near end-members to extensive solid solutions. Our analyses suggest the existence in nature of a complete solid solution between ammonioalunite and ammoniojarosite. They also carry essential amounts of chlorine.

Abstract Kokowska-Pawłowska, M. and Nowak, J. 2013. Phosphorus minerals in tonstein; coal seam 405 at Sośnica- Makoszowy coal mine, Upper Silesia, southern Poland. Acta Geologica Polonica, 63 (2), 271-281. Warszawa. The paper presents results of research on tonstein, which constitutes an interburden in coal seam 405 at the Sośnica- Makoszowy coal mine, Makoszowy field (mining level 600 m), Upper Silesia, southern Poland. The mineral and chemical compositions of the tonstein differ from the typical compositions described earlier for tonsteins from Upper Silesia Coal Basin area. Additionally, minerals present in the tonsteins include kaolinite, quartz, kaolinitised biotite and feldspars. The presence of the phosphatic minerals apatite and goyazite has been recognized. The presence of gorceixite and crandallite is also possible. The contents of CaO (5.66 wt%) and P2O5 (6.2 wt%) are remarkably high. Analysis of selected trace elements demonstrated high contents of Sr (4937 ppm) and Ba (4300 ppm), related to the phosphatic minerals. On the basis of mineral composition the tonstein has been identified as a crystalline tonstein, transitional to a multiplied one.

Abstract The main subject of this paper focuses on scientific and research activities conducted in the Institute of Mining Engineering and Safety of the VŠB-Technical University of Ostrava. Cooperation between the VŠB-Technical University of Ostrava and OKD A.S., the only representative of coal mining in the Ostrava-Karviná coal basin, has recently begun to develop again. This paper describes an example discussed in a certain study, which has been undertaken for the Paskov mine, OKD a.s., dealing specifically with the evolution of microclimate parameters in mines that depend on the progress of mining activity at deeper levels over a period of several years. To this end, a special program, aimed at determination of the necessary refrigerating capacity, was established at the VŠB-Technical University of Ostrava.

Background: A briquette machine can be considered very useful in modern times as the need of energy consumption is increasing rapidly. Considering the harm to environment, study of briquette machine is the need of present times. In this paper, the operative unit is considered as briquette machine also known as bio-coal which is used for agroforestry waste. Objective: A single operative unit has been analyzed stochastically. The inspection of breakdown of a unit reveals the feasibility of the unit under the supervision of either ordinary or expert repairmen. Two types of fault are revealed by the repairmen either minor or major fault. Minor faults are repaired immediately by the same repairmen but whenever major fault held, the machine’s fault will be handled by expert person. Method: It is assumed that the repair needs no modification once served. Availability, Mean-time for system failure, and profits are analyzed by utilizing the Regenerative point graphical technique and semi-Markov process. Result: Study reveals that the Mean-time for system failure of the system model go on decreasing as failure rate increase and availability goes on decreasing as failure-rate increase. Moreover, the study shows that the systems profit goes down on increase of Failure-rate. Conclusion: Findings of the study supports the hypothesis that the limits of failure/repair/inspection rate will surely have effective profitability. Moreover, it is found that the utility of scale of operation can easily be derived. The practical importance of biomass briquettes for burning coal or wood is very well appreciated.
