Several repulsion systems have been developed to minimize the confinement of ichthyofauna in draft tubes. In this perspective, this study intends to analyze the efficiency of the hydraulic flow rate increase maneuver, using a hydroacoustic system for real-time monitoring of the movement of the ichthyofauna confined within the draft tube of the generating units of Jirau Hydroelectric Power Plant. It is located on the Madeira River, in Rondônia, Brazil. We analyzed footage of 105 machine shutdowns taken between 2019 and 2020 at Jirau Hydroelectric Power Plant that used the hydraulic flow rate increase maneuver as a strategy to repulse ichthyofauna. Also, the footage of 7 two-stage shutdowns in the year 2020 was analyzed, the first stage without the maneuver and the second with the maneuver. The follow-up of 105 shutdowns demonstrate that approximately 85% of the footage showed little or no movement of ichthyofauna in the draft tube, with images of movements showing patterns characteristic of small fish (~97%). Furthermore, the quantitative evaluation of the two-stage maneuver indicated a reduction of approximately 91% in the movement of ichthyofauna after the hydraulic flow rate increase maneuver. Thus, the increase in the rate of the hydraulic flow procedure, developed by Jirau Energia, proved to be an innovative and efficient strategy in reducing extensive social and environmental impacts and in favoring positive economic impacts.

This paper uses a direct-projections approach to estimate the effect of capital gains taxation on realizations at the state level and then develops a framework for determining revenue-maximizing rates at the federal level. We find that the elasticity of revenues with respect to the tax rate over a 10-year period is −0.5 to −0.3, indicating that capital gains tax cuts do not pay for themselves and that a 5 percentage point rate increase would yield $18 to $30 billion in annual federal tax revenue. Our long-run estimates yield revenue-maximizing capital gains tax rates of 38 to 47 percent. (JEL E62, H25, H71)

Abstract Background Cryoballoon pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) is a common therapy for atrial fibrillation (AF). While moderately increased sinus rhythm heart rate (HR) after PVI has been observed, inappropriate sinus tachycardia (IST) is a rare phenomenon. We aimed to investigate the prevalence and natural history of an abnormal sinus HR response after cryoballoon PVI. Methods We included 169/646 (26.2%) patients with AF undergoing PVI with available Holter recordings before and 3, 6 and 12 months after the procedure. Patients with AF on Holter monitoring were excluded. Mean HR increase ≥ 20 bpm or an IST-like pattern (mean HR > 90 bpm or > 80 bpm when beta-blocking agents were used) following PVI was categorised as abnormal sinus HR response. Results Following PVI, mean HR ± standard deviation increased in the entire group from 63.5 ± 8.4 to 69.1 ± 9.9 bpm at 3 months (p < 0.001), and to 71.9 ± 9.4 bpm at 6 months (p < 0.001). At 12 months, mean HR was 71.2 ± 10.1 bpm (p < 0.001). Only 7/169 patients (4.1%) met criteria for abnormal sinus HR response: mean HR was 61.9 ± 10.6 bpm (pre-ablation), 84.6 ± 9.8 bpm (3 months), 80.1 ± 6.5 bpm (6 months) and 76.3 ± 10.1 bpm (12 months). Even at 12 months, mean HR was significantly different from that pre-ablation in this group (p = 0.033). However, in patients meeting IST-like pattern criteria, mean HR at 12 months was no longer significantly different from that pre-ablation. Conclusion Few patients had an abnormal sinus HR response after PVI. Peak HR was observed 3 months after PVI, but HR was still significantly increased 12 months post-ablation compared with pre-ablation. An IST-like pattern was rarely observed. In these patients, HR decreased to pre-ablation values within a year.

The Dongsam seawater stream on a reclaimed land flows by tidal forcing. The flow in generally slow, especially in the central portion of the stream because the outflow and inflow each occurs at both ends of the stream simultaneously. As a result, sediments accmulate constantly with the deteorating water quality. In this study, field observation was conducted using Aquadrifter and Aquadopp and analyzed for the analysis of the flow velocity in the stream. The computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modeling was run with and without Seawater Stream Floodgate to predict the variability of the flow. The flow velocity of the Dongsam Seawater Stream was recorded in the range of 0.01 ~ 0.13 m/s, and the tidal range was within 1.0 m. According to the simulation, the flow velocity could increase remarkably with two floodgates used to force the stream to flow unidirectionally (toward Korea Maritime & Ocean University). The flow velocity change rate at each point is recorded -97 ~ 638% at P1 (front of Malfunction Floodgate near Busan Int. Cruise Terminal), -89 ~ 659% at P2 (back of Malfunction Floodgate near Busan Int. Cruise Terminal), -100 ~ 1198% at P3 (central channel), and at P4 (toward Korea Maritime & Ocean University) was -100 to 1163%, and Case III-a showed the largest flow velocity rate increase in the central part. Therefore, if two Floodgates are installed and flowed out toward Korea Maritime & Ocean University, the flow velocity rate of the Stream can be increased.

The reactivity of polyoxovanadates towards adenosine-5′-triphosphate (ATP) hydrolysis at pH 2, 4, 6 and 7 is reported. Detailed kinetic investigation of ATP hydrolysis in the presence of polyoxovanadates was performed through multinuclear nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. In general, rate acceleration of up to five orders of magnitude was observed in the presence of vanadates compared to spontaneous ATP hydrolysis, with the greatest acceleration observed for reactions carried out at pH 2. Interestingly, the effectiveness of vanadates in promoting ATP hydrolysis decreased as the pH of the reaction solution increased; nevertheless, at pH = 7, the rate increase of one order of magnitude in comparison to blank reactions was still observed. Interactions between vanadate species in solution and ATP were investigated by means of 31P and 51V NMR spectroscopy, and this pointed towards the preferential interaction of vanadium with the phosphate groups rather than other regions of the ATP molecule.

Abstract: In today’s era there are speed economic developments, the corporate Social responsibility has become the main focus. In corporate world marketing through advertisement and Corporate Social Responsibility has become a major factor. Generally, the corporate gains profit via marketing, advertisements, QoS and corporate Social responsibility (CSR). There are more possibilities of raise in corporate share market when they collaborate with government social responsibility. The paper investigates a novel algorithm named as “Branding and developing business (BDB) algorithm via CSR. The proposed system handles both the economy of Government and Corporate mutually. The corporate profit chances tax Benefits and share rate increase are checked continuously. Moreover, when the government subsidizes the corporate and the retailer simultaneously, only the retailer's profit increases in the corporate CSR effort. Further in this paper, the profit perspectives of corporate and Government through CSR are also proposed. Keywords: corporate social responsibility (CSR), BDB, Government, Share Market.

To investigate the effect of blade wrap angle on the hydrodynamic radial force of a single blade centrifugal pump, numerical simulation is conducted on the pumps with different blade wrap angles. The effect of the wrap angle on the external characteristics and the radial force of a single blade centrifugal pump was analyzed according to the simulation result. It is found that, with the increase of the blade wrap angle, the head and efficiency of the single blade centrifugal pump are improved, the H-Q curve becomes steeper, and the efficiency also increased gradually, while the high-efficiency area is narrowed. The blade wrap angle has a great effect on the radial force of the single blade centrifugal pump. When the blade wrap angle is less than 360°, the horizontal component of the radial force is negative and the value is reduced with the increase of the wrap angle of the blade. When the wrap angle is larger than 360°, the horizontal component of the radial force is positive and the value increases with the increase of the wrap angle. Under part-loading conditions, the radial force of the single blade pump is significantly reduced with the increase of the blade wrap angle. When the wrap angle is smaller than 360°, the radial force decreases with the flow rate increase. In the condition that the wrap angle is larger than 360°, the radial force increases with the flow rate increase.

ObjectiveTo evaluate whether in preterm neonates parenteral nutrition use in the first 7 postnatal days, compared with no parenteral nutrition use, is associated with differences in survival and other important morbidities. Randomised trials in critically ill older children show that harms, such as nosocomial infection, outweigh benefits of early parenteral nutrition administration; there is a paucity of similar data in neonates.DesignRetrospective cohort study using propensity matching including 35 maternal, infant and organisational factors to minimise bias and confounding.SettingNational, population-level clinical data obtained for all National Health Service neonatal units in England and Wales.PatientsPreterm neonates born between 30+0 and 32+6 weeks+days.InterventionsThe exposure was parenteral nutrition administered in the first 7 days of postnatal life; the comparator was no parenteral nutrition.Main outcome measuresThe primary outcome was survival to discharge from neonatal care. Secondary outcomes comprised the neonatal core outcome set.Results16 292 neonates were compared in propensity score matched analyses. Compared with matched neonates not given parenteral nutrition in the first postnatal week, neonates who received parenteral nutrition had higher survival at discharge (absolute rate increase 0.91%; 95% CI 0.53% to 1.30%), but higher rates of necrotising enterocolitis (absolute rate increase 4.6%), bronchopulmonary dysplasia (absolute rate increase 3.9%), late-onset sepsis (absolute rate increase 1.5%) and need for surgical procedures (absolute rate increase 0.92%).ConclusionsIn neonates born between 30+0 and 32+6 weeks’ gestation, those given parenteral nutrition in the first postnatal week had a higher rate of survival but higher rates of important neonatal morbidities. Clinician equipoise in this area should be resolved by prospective randomised trials.Trial registration numberNCT03767634.

Postural Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) is characterized by frequent orthostatic symptoms and excessive heart rate increase (>= 30 bpm) on standing in the absence of orthostatic hypotension for more than 6 months. We and others have described a vestibulo-sympathetic reflex that can be engaged by galvanic vestibular stimulation to modulate sympathetic activity (Biaggioni et al., 2000; Kaufmann et al., 2002; Monahan & Ray, 2002; Ray & Carter, 2003, Bent, Macefield et al. 2006). We hypothesize that habituation to sinusoidal galvanic vestibular stimulation will improve orthostatic tolerance. We studied 6 patients with POTS (30.5+/6.0 years, BMI 22.8+/-2.9 kg/m 2 ) in two sessions using sinusoidal galvanic vestibular stimulation (sGVS 0.025 Hz, 2mA) or sham (0.01 mA). Stimulation was applied near mastoid process for 30 min in semi-recumbent position before orthostatic challenge. Patient were upright for a maximum of 15 minutes after each stimulation. Orthostatic change in Vanderbilt Orthostatic Symptom Score (dVOSS), orthostatic heart rate increase (dHR) and blood pressure response were recorded. Non-parametric Wilcoxon test for paired measures with significance level p<0.05 was used. sGVS stimulation reduced overall orthostatic symptom score (dVOSS sham: 32.5+/-9.3 bpm vs dVOSS sGVS: 10.5+/-5.5, p=0.03) and tended to reduce orthostatic HR increase (dHR sham: 65.83+/-11.5 vs dHR sGVS: 46.5+/-10.7 bpm, p=0.06). Blood pressure and tilt time did not change. This pilot study suggests that habituation to sinusoidal vestibular could be used to improve orthostatic symptoms and orthostatic tolerance.
