ABSTRACT The penetration of telavancin was 2% into inflamed meninges and ca. 1‰ into noninflamed meninges after two intravenous injections (30 mg/kg of body weight). In experimental meningitis, telavancin was significantly superior to vancomycin combined with ceftriaxone against a penicillin-resistant pneumococcal strain. Against a methicillin-sensitive staphylococcal strain, telavancin was slightly but not significantly superior to vancomycin.

A method of analysis of polarographic waves of simple electrode processes is proposed. The quasi-reversible half-wave potential, Ec1/2, is involved in the determination of thermodynamic and kinetic parameters of electrode processes. This potential is determined very easily and with great precision. In order to facilitate the use of the method proposed, we have developed a computer program for Windows.

The dependence of partial photochemical quantum yields on temperature and light intensity was examined with two dihydroindolizines. Some nonlinear optimization procedures and least squares methods are used to solve the system of differential equations. The distinct influence of the competitive thermal reaction can be demonstrated for both photochromic systems by determination of thermodynamic and kinetic parameters.
