Salt lake brine resource is one of the strategic resources in the western of China. Phase equilibria and phase diagrams are the theoretic foundation for the exploitation of salt lake brine resources. Hence, studies for the stable and metastable phase equilibria of lithium-containing salt-water systems are of the great importance for the development of salt lake brine resources. In this paper, the stable and metastable phase equilibria of lithium-containing salt-water systems were summarized, and the problems existed at present and the new trends in the future are also discussed.

The high lithium uptake of H2TiO3 from brine is due to its lithium ion-sieve property. Exchange sites are too narrow for Na, K, Mg and Ca to enter the interlayer space due to steric effects.
