Purpose: To report on posterior ischemic optic neuropathies, a vascular disorder that happens in the posterior part of the optic nerve and therefore, usually does not present with optic disc edema. Case Report: This is a case report on a posterior ischemic optic neuropathy with an uncharacteristic presentation. It highlights the importance of understanding the different pathophysiology of PION vs anterior ischemic optic neuropathies in order to help differentiate the two clinically and includes a literature review of posterior ischemic optic neuropathy.

Introduction Lipomas of the gastrointestinal tract are rare, slow-growing lesions that comprise 0.4% of all gastrointestinal neoplasms. They can cause dysphagia, dyspnoea or sudden choking. Case History Due to rarity of this condition and its uncommon presentation, a literature review was carried out (PubMed). This search revealed 290 articles, of which 74 were considered pertinent and were evaluated. We report a case of a 13cm pedunculated oesophageal lipoma that presented with increasing dysphagia and two episodes of suffocation. The patient underwent curative resection through a cervical approach. Conclusions Resection is recommended for large (>5 cm) or symptomatic polyps. Outcomes are excellent given that lesions are universally benign and oesophageal resection is not required.

Abstract Background Diseases caused by nontyphoid Salmonella can range from mild, to self-limiting gastroenteritis and severe invasive infection. Relatively rarely, Salmonella may cause severe encephalopathy. Case presentation We report a suspected case of Bickerstaff’s brainstem encephalitis caused by Salmonella Dublin. A young man presented with impaired consciousness, ataxia, dysarthria, limb weakness, and restricted eyeball abduction. His clinical symptoms were consistent with Bickerstaff’s brainstem encephalitis. Conclusions This is the first case report of Bickerstaff’s brainstem encephalitis caused by Salmonella Dublin in the literature. After treatment, he recovered and was discharged. Early antibiotic treatment of sepsis may control the disease and avoid serious encephalopathy.
