Recording neuronal group activity across the cortical hemispheres from awake, behaving mice is essential for understanding information flow across cerebral networks. Video recordings of cerebral function comes with challenges, including optical and movement-associated vessel artifacts, and limited references for time series extraction. Here we present a data-driven workflow that isolates artifacts from calcium activity patterns, and segments independent functional units across the cortical surface. Independent Component Analysis utilizes the statistical interdependence of pixel activation to completely unmix signals from background noise, given sufficient spatial and temporal samples. We also utilize isolated signal components to produce segmentations of the cortical surface, unique to each individual’s functional patterning. Time series extraction from these maps maximally represent the underlying signal in a highly compressed format. These improved techniques for data pre-processing, spatial segmentation, and time series extraction result in optimal signals for further analysis.

Abstract The improvement of property price modelling accuracy using property market segmentation approaches is well documented in the housing market. However, that cannot be said of the commercial property market which is adjudged to be volatile, heterogeneous and thinly traded. This study, therefore, determines if the commercial property market in Malaysia is spatially segmented into submarkets and whether accounting for the submarkets improves the accuracy of price modelling. Using a 11,460 shop-offices transaction dataset, the commercial property submarkets are delineated by using submarket binary dummies in the market-wide model and estimating a separate hedonic model for each submarket. The former method improves the model fit and reduces error by 5.6% and 6.5% respectively. The commercial property submarkets are better delineated by estimating a separate hedonic model for each submarket as it improves the model fit by about 7% and reduces models’ error by more than 10%. This study concludes that the Malaysian commercial property market is spatially segmented into submarkets. Modelling the submarkets improves the accuracy and correctness of price modelling.

Abstract. The knowledge of the actual traffic state is a basic prerequisite of modern traffic telematic systems. Floating Car Data (FCD) systems are becoming more and more important for the provision of actual and reliable traffic data. In these systems the vehicle velocity is the original variable for the evaluation of the current traffic condition. As real FCDsystems are operating under conditions of limited transmission and processing capacity the analysis of the original variable vehicle speed is of special interest. Entropy considerations are especially useful for the deduction of fundamental restrictions and limitations. The paper analyses velocity-time profiles by means of information entropy. It emphasises in quantification of the information content of velocity-time profiles and the discussion of entropy dynamic in velocity-time profiles. Investigations are based on empirical data derived during field trials. The analysis of entropy dynamic is carried out in two different ways. On one hand velocity differences within a certain interval of time are used, on the other hand the transinformation between velocities in certain time distances was evaluated. One important result is an optimal sample-rate for the detection of velocity data in FCD-systems. The influence of spatial segmentation and of different states of traffic was discussed.
