Data replication is widely used mechanism aiming at ensuring efficient access, improving performance and providing quality data in data grids. The properties of file and their replicas can vary with time resulting to inconsistency. In this paper, an agent-based replica consistency approach, namely, Replica Consistency and Conflict Resolution (RCCR) has been proposed to improve the efficiency of the system. RCCR is hybrid approach which is used to address the problem of inconsistency in multi master environment. Additionally, the conflict resolution approach is introduced based on vector clock and version of the replica. Finally, simulated results are presented and compared with existing consistency approaches such as Pessimistic, Optimistic and One-way Replica Consistency (ORCS). The simulated results depicts that proposed RCCR approach performs better when writeable replicas are more likely to occur.

Recommender system is used to suggest product or topic based on user’s interest. Existing recommender system have focused on books, product, music etc. The problem in existing recommender system is that wedding/event based suggestions are not available. In the modern information era; storage, communication has been a challenge due to information veracity, volume, and velocity. Due to the constant and exponential growth of information, the utilization of information for context-oriented services is not productive. In this paper, a wedding planner recommender system framework has been proposed based on hybrid approach i.e., content based, collaborative filtering technique. The motive of proposed framework is to generate user-specific recommendations for different tasks related to the event specially wedding event, analyzed from the user comments on his social networking portal. Its main objective is to assist the user for organizing the events by suggesting specific vendors needed to arrange the event activities. Also, it would enhance the sales of location sensitive products in social commerce. The trial study conducted using a set of Facebook users is carried out to validate the proposed recommendation system framework. The success of the proposed framework is reported in terms of the level of user satisfaction achieved.

Rather than replicating a file completely, Chang et al. proposed a fragmented replication technique to cope with the problem that only partial content of the replica are required in a local application. Furthermore, they also proposed two server selection algorithms for replica retrieval. However, their algorithms do not always find an optimal solution. To address the problem, in this paper, the authors propose a replica selection algorithm to improve the fragmented replica retrieval efficiency in this paper. It is a heuristic considering not only the transmission time but also the number of available servers for each block. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can improve the retrieval efficiency up to 12%.

In order not to be limited in term of calculation, storage and communication, the concept of grid, which does not cease evolving, makes it possible to offer a practical operation of work unified as well as a great storage and computing power. To manage the division in the data grid, technical replication is used, but in spite of their advantages, the competitor access to the data could involve inconsistencies, from where the great challenge to ensure the consistency management between replicas of object. In this chapter, we describe model double-layered adapted to the applications on a large scale and which represents the support of the hybrid approach of consistency management of replicas based on pessimistic and optimistic approaches. This hybrid approach present an adapted mechanism based on the various negotiation forms between virtual consistency agents to be able to reduce the number of conflicts between replicas in data grids.

The objective in Data Grids is to reduce access and file (replica) transfer latencies, as well as to avoid single site congestion by the numerous requesters. To facilitate access and transfer of the data, the files of the Data Grid are distributed across the multiple sites. The effectiveness of a replica selection strategy in data grids depends on its ability to serve the requirement posed by the users' jobs. Most jobs are required to be executed at a specific execution time. To achieve the QoS perceived by the users, response time metrics should take into account a replica selection strategy. Total execution time needs to factor latencies due to network transfer rates and latencies due to search and location. Network resources affect the speed of moving the required data and searching methods can reduce scope for replica selection. This paper presents a replica selection strategy that adapts its criteria dynamically so as to best approximate application providers’ and clients’ requirements. We introduce a new selection technique (EST) that shows improved performance over the more common algorithms.
