Cystic echinococcosis (CE), also known as “hydatid disease” (HD), is a zoonotic infection caused by the larval stage of Echinococcus granulosus, which infects humans as intermediate hosts through the orofecal route. Carried by the intestinal venous blood, the embryos released by the eggs of the tapeworms can reach every organ, especially the liver, turning into a hydatid cyst. Usually asymptomatic, the cysts can be incidentally detected through radiological examinations performed for other reasons. We show an unusual case of superinfection of a hydatid cyst with typical radiological features of inactivity (WHO-type CE5) with an even rarer skin fistulization passing through a subcutaneous-abdominal abscess involving the right iliac muscle.

Primary systemic amyloidosis is not easily diagnosed. The immunoglobulin deposits are usually localized in the kidney, heart, and liver. We describe an unusual case of a patient suffering from a pericardial amyloidoma with internal calcifications and air bubbles that compressed the right ventricle and shifted the heart to the left. Since the patient was in shock, urgent pericardiotomy was performed. This site showed PET uptake. A monoclonal component was present. On these findings, differential diagnoses included multiple myeloma and atypical pericardial tuberculosis, whereas a periumbilical fat tissue biopsy demonstrated amyloidosis. A previous Salmonella species infection had most likely stimulated the production of amyloid. The patient received bortezomib/dexamethasone treatment and achieved a good response.

Cardiac Hydatid Cysts are uncommonly encountered entity of hydatid disease. Presentation may be with non-specific symptoms and sometimes with life threatening events. We present a rare case of a 9-year-old female who was diagnosed with a Cardiac Hydatid Cyst in the right ventricle, and underwent successful surgical excision

AbstractIntracardiac hydatid cyst is relatively uncommon and involvement of right ventricular outflow tract is extremely rare. We report a rare case of intracardiac hydatid cyst involving the right ventricular outflow tract and do a review of literature.
