The highly intergrown NaA zeolite membranes on seeded α-Al2O3substrate were synthesized by microwave heating method. The preparation of seeds with the size of ca.120nm employed the vapor phase transport method (VPT). The XRD patterns indicated that the pure NaA zeolite membranes formed on the seeded α-Al2O3substrate for varied synthesis times. However, the peak intensity of NaA zeolite membrane with synthesis time of 50min obviously decreased, suggesting that the NaA membrane could take place the dissolution at that time. The SEM images indicated that the NaA zeolite membranes with synthesis time of 15-30min had a good integrity and consisted of highly intergrown zeolite crystals, but the NaA membrane with synthesis time of 50min appeared some large defects, further verifying the result of XRD pattern. The gas permeability showed that the maximum of H2/N2and H2/C3H8permselectivities attained 4.23 and 8.24, respectively, higher than those of the corresponding Knudsen diffusion. These results suggested that the diffusion of gases, at least in part, are affected by the pore size of zeolite and the function of molecular sieving can be embodied on the synthesized membrane.

Dense and good catalytic performance TS-1 zeolite membranes were rapidly prepared on porous mullite support by secondary hydrothermal synthesis. The properties of seed crystals were very important for the preparation of high-catalytic performance TS-1 zeolite membranes. Influences of seed crystals (Ti/Si ratios, size, morphology, and zeolites concentration of the seed suspension) on the growth and catalytic property of TS-1 zeolite membranes were investigated in details. High Ti/Si ratio, medium-size, and morphology of the seed crystals were critical for preparing the high-performance TS-1 zeolite membrane. Compared with the bi-layer TS-1 zeolite membrane (inner and outer of the mullite tube), the mono-layer TS-1 zeolite membrane had a better catalytic performance for Isopropanol IPA oxidation with H2O2. When the Ti/Si ratio, size, and morphology of the TS-1 zeolites were 0.030, 300 nm, ellipsoid, and the zeolites concentration of the seed suspension was 5%, the IPA conversion, and flux through the TS-1 zeolite membrane were 98.23% and 2.58 kg·m−2·h−1, respectively.

The tremendous potential of zeolite membranes for efficient molecular separation via size-exclusion effects is highly desired by the energy and chemical industries, but its practical realization has been hindered by nonselective permeation through intercrystalline spaces and high resistance to intracrystalline diffusion in the conventional zeolite membranes of randomly oriented polycrystalline structures. Here, we report the synthesis of ZSM-5 zeolite nanosheets with very large aspect ratios and nanometer-scale thickness in the preferred straight channel direction. We used these ZSM-5 nanosheets to fabricate ultrathin (<500 nm) laminated membranes on macroporous alumina substrates by a simple dip-coating process and subsequent consolidation via vapor-phase crystallization. This ultrathinb-oriented ZSM-5 membrane has demonstrated extraordinary water flux combined with high salt rejection in pervaporation desalination for brines containing up to 24 weight % of dissolved NaCl. The ZSM-5 nanosheets may also offer opportunities to developing high-performance battery ion separators, catalysts, adsorbents, and thin-film sensors.
