Customers’ pressure, social responsibility, and government regulations have motivated the enterprises to consider the reverse logistics (RL) in their operations. Recently, companies frequently outsource their RL practices to third-party reverse logistics providers (3PRLPs) to concentrate on their primary concern and diminish costs. However, to select the suitable 3PRLP candidate requires a multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) process involving uncertainty owing to the presence of many associated aspects. In order to choose the most appropriate sustainable 3PRLP (S3PRLP), we introduce a hybrid approach based on the classical Combined Compromise Solution (CoCoSo) method and propose a discrimination measure within the context of hesitant fuzzy sets (HFSs). This approach offers a new process based on the discrimination measure for evaluating the criteria weights. The efficiency and practicability of the present approach are numerically demonstrated by solving an illustrative case study of S3PRLPs selection under a hesitant fuzzy environment. Moreover, sensitivity and comparative studies are presented to highlight the robustness and strength of the introduced methodology. The result of this work concludes that the introduced methodology can recommend a more feasible performance when facing with determinate and inconsistent knowledge and qualitative data.

All the classification systems at present adopted for use in carcinoma of the maxillary sinus suffer from both intrinsic inaccuracies and an apparent failure to relate T (extent of primary tumor) categories to clinical experience of the spread of these tumors. Three systems are critically analyzed in relation to personal experience of 86 patients with sinus carcinoma and a fourth system proposed as a compromise solution to this problem.

The withdrawal of American troops from Iraq marks the beginning of a new stage in the history of that country. Iraq once again becomes a sovereign independent state. From now on, the huge task of ensuring security and putting an end to the terrible internal strife must be entrusted to the local authority. It is crucial to find a compromise solution to the Sunni-Shiite conflict. To achieve this end, the central power has to be really inclusive, giving the Sunnis their legitimate place in governing the country. The worst scenario would be the establishment of a Shiite-dominated regime that is prone to neglect the grievances of the Sunni population. The rights of the Kurdish minority, too, have to be safeguarded unless the state falls apart. Judging by their past behavior, however, it is hard to believe in the goodwill and adequate judgment of Iraqi politicians. The author concludes that the situation may well get worse before it starts to better off.

During the work on the draft of the 1997 Code of the Execution of Penalties (CEP) much attention was paid to the principle of the treatment of sentenced persons, and particu-larly those serving prison sentences, as subjects. In the Polish penological literature two dimensions of that principle were indicated. The first one referred to the strengthening of the sentenced person’s position in relation to enforcement authorities by means of precise regulations concerning his/her legal status and effective mechanisms for the protection of his/her rights. The second dimension meant the abandonment of forced rehabilitation and providing sentenced persons with the ability to decide freely whether they wanted to partici-pate in correctional interventions. Undoubtedly, the 1997 CEP strengthened the legal status of a sentenced person. As regards the abandonment of forced rehabilitation, the legislator chose a compromise solution according to which the participation in correctional interven-tions was, as a rule, voluntary, but in some cases it was mandatory. Like in other countries, in Poland in the last decade the idea of the public protection against crime played an in-creasingly important role in the criminal policy. In the criminal justice system focused on risk management, the treatment of sentenced persons as subjects requires providing them with reliable information on the possible consequences of their decisions concerning the participation in offered correctional activities. Additionally, it requires providing them with adequate access to empirically proven correctional programmes as well as introducing a transparent system of risk assessment and monitoring during the execution of the imposed penalty or penal measure.
