PurposeThe awareness for protecting the environment has resulted in remanufacturing and recycling policies in manufacturing industries. Carbon emission is one of the most important elements affecting the environment. Carbon emission due to production and transportation creates complicated situations for the manufacturing firms by affecting the manufacturer's carbon quota. The ecological consequences posed in a reverse logistic model are the subject of this study.Design/methodology/approachThe present study explores the fuzzy model of economic production for both remanufacturing and recycling with uncertain cost parameters under the cap-and-trade rule to control the carbon emission due to different modes of transportation. Due to imprecise cost parameters, the hexagonal fuzzy numbers are set to fuzzify the overall cost, which leads to correct decisions in a more confident way. The result is defuzzified by using graded mean integration.FindingsThis study offers an explicit condition to control the carbon emission of the manufacturer and reduce the optimum cost. The findings indicate that the collection of used goods that can be remanufactured must be increased. The model is validated numerically. Sensitivity analysis explores the various aspects of different parameters on net cost to accomplish the fuzzy production model.Originality/valueUnder fuzzy inference, the research offers a relevant contribution in the field of recycling with controlling carbon emission by using the cap-and-trade policy. This study provides a trading strategy for a manufacturer's decision to avoid losses.

Abstract Background In the current scenario of COVID-19 outbreak whereby the virus spreads through fomites and aerosols, there has been a huge increase in the use of soaps, sanitizers and personal protective equipment’s (PPEs) which in turn is causing huge amount of liquid and solid waste generation. We briefly describe here as how this pandemic is causing an impact on global environment. We also provide a rationale of using a modelled treatment framework using a reverse logistic network as temporary waste management measure during this pandemic. Methods We systematically searched Medline, Cochrane library, Google Scholar, Embase for articles published in English language describing the increased Biomedical waste generation in the current COVID-19 pandemic. Results As of July 2020, the volume of the COVID biomedical waste generated across India was 101 metric tons per day where Maharashtra was the largest producer of biomedical waste with about 17.5 metric tons per day. Conclusions Rationale use of personal protective equipment according to the exposure level of the biological hazard should be ensured by health workers and communities. Awareness regarding the proper disposal of the personal protective equipment and other biomedical wastes generated should be created. Also, proper segregation of biomedical wastes from the point of generation to the point of disposal and treatment should be done. Key messages Inappropriate usage and disposal of PPEs in the current COVID-19 pandemic is a huge hazard to the environment.

Aggregation operators are fundamental concept for information fusion in real-life problems. Many researchers developed aggregation operators for multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) under uncertainty. Unfortunately, the existing operators can be utilized under strict limitations and constraints. In this manuscript, we focused on new prioritized aggregation operators which remove the strict limitations of the existing operators. The addition of reference parameters associated with membership and non-membership grades in the linear Diophantine Fuzzy sets provide a robust modeling for MCDM problems. The primary objective of this manuscript is to introduce new aggregation operators for modeling uncertainty by using linear Diophantine Fuzzy information. For this objective we develop aggregation operators (AO) namely, "linear Diophantine Fuzzy prioritized weighted average" (LDFPWA) operator and "linear Diophantine Fuzzy prioritized weighted geometric" (LDFPWG) operator. Certain essential properties of new prioritized AOs are also proposed. A secondary objective is to discuss a practical application of third party reverse logistic provider (3PRLP) optimization problem. The efficiency, superiority, and rationality of the proposed approach is analyzed by a numerical example to discuss 3PRLP. The symmetry of optimal decision and ranking of feasible alternatives is followed by a comparative analysis.

Recently, with the rapid development of social platforms, social e-commerce enterprises are also rising. However, in the process of development, logistics cost has become a big constraint. Taking Pinduoduo as an example, this paper adopts case analysis method and literature review method to study how to help e-commerce enterprises control logistics costs from the perspective of value chain. By analyzing, this paper finds that for internal value chain of Pinduoduo, it faces problems of inadequate supervision of delivery cost, unreasonable freight rate, and high reverse logistic cost. For external value chain, Pinduoduo faces problems of low loyalty from users, high competitiveness from competitors and imperfect sinking market value chain. Aiming at these problems, this paper puts forward the following suggestions. For internal value chain, Pinduoduo should adopt JIT and ABC method, strengthen the supervision of delivery cost, and improve the efficiency of after-sale service. For external value chain, Pinduoduo needs to establish strong relationship with suppliers and customers. Most importantly, forming an infallible information system is essential.

In this report I tried to develop a model to control remanufacturing transportation cost for a reverse supply chain considering various serviceable and remanufacturable inventory stock points. While consumers traditionally dump the products at the end of their life cycle, there is an option to return them to the manufacturers for renew and reuse. As a result, manufacturers must collect products at the end of their life and control their recovery or disposal situation. Product recovery, which includes reusing, remanufacturing and recycling, requires a reverse logistic network in order to increase efficiently. This report presents the results of a simulation model for a reverse logistics network for collecting the returned cartridge toners from customers. Real data from an Australian case company was utilized to design test experiments in order to validate and evaluate the model.
