The article is devoted to the urgent problem of preventing financial losses and risks associated with fraudulent actions of third parties. An analysis of various circumstances and situations of fraudulent actions is given. A comparative analysis of various schemes and algorithms used in the construction of financial pyra-mids has been carried out. The importance and necessity of informational and methodological warning of the population about possible risks are shown: on the street, in an apartment, by phone and on the Internet, at home (uninvited guest), in the market, in a store, in transport, at a train station, in the press, with bank cards (phishing, skimming, phantom ATM). The economic recommendations for preventing financial losses for the affected citizens are presented. Particular attention is paid to the concept of building financial pyramids. An economic model of risk formation has been developed using the example of the famous MMM financial pyra-mid. The calculation of the moment when the depositor exits the fraudulent scheme without financial losses and, importantly, with a profit, has been performed.

The author of this article seeks to reconstruct the biographical data of artist Lazar Kagan and to analyze his humorous art in the context of interwar Lithuanian art (1918–1940). The research also gives special attention to Kagan’s art exhibitions, as well as the attitude of interwar art critics and public to the art of humor. By representing the life and works of only one artist, author attempts to open a window into the once prosperous and subsequently destroyed world of Lithuanian Jewish artistic life, as well as to fill some actual gaps in the history of Lithuanian art, considering it as an indivisible multicultural space. Many important documents concerning Kagan’s biography were destroyed during the WWII and the Holocaust. His artistic heritage was more fortunate and survived thanks to the press.

About construction of meanings in the press discourse – the comparative approach, based on the example of Norway attacks in 2011The purpose of the article is to describe and analyse the meanings which the media construct in relation to real events ‘événement réel’ by the example of Anders Breivik’s attacks in Norway in 2011. The paper is a comparative analysis of the media productions in three countries – Poland, France and the United Kingdom. The authors use the French Linguistic Discourse Analysis FLAD methods to determine the keywords ‘mot vedette’ – the most common words or phrases naming the event – reconstruct referential paradigms ‘paradigme désignationnel’ – the lists of expressions that rephrase the keywords – and then deliberate their social meanings. The article textualizes similarities and differences of the social meanings of the event in different European countries and contemplates the collective memory of Europeans.

In this article author focused on the Diaries and Memoirs of Yevhen Chykalenko. He has tried to reconstruct the process of creating these books and compare them. The author creatively developed the comparative analysis of Memoirs and Diaries, because the first book is characterized by officiality, memory idyll, positive aspects of Ukraine. The second one brings bitterness and a critical judgment of his own nation. To emphasize this comparison, the author used the concept of Malgorzata Czermińska’s autobiographical triangle. Reflecting on the passivity of the Ukrainian writer during the Ukrainian People’s Republic, he came to the conclusion that it resulted from the philosophy of „not opposing evil with violence” by Leo Tolstoy. Between him and Chykalenko the author found more converging parallels. The author then dealt with the political myths of Chykalenko, among which he distinguished his fascination with Germany. If in Memoirs we deal with an idyllic and positive image of Ukraine and Ukrainians, catastrophic visions prevail in the dairies. It shows the fall of values, as well as the triumph of barbarism that prevailed after the revolution of 1917. Memoirs and Diaries by Chykalenko are very important for the study of the history of Ukrainian periodicals, we learn about the realities of the press, problems with censorship, editorial work, repressions.
