Here is a gracefully written, tastefully illustrative book which can be recommended to pediatricians as an introduction to the realities of clinical work in developing countries, and as a general guide to assessing their health problems and adapting their clinical services to needs. It does not deal in clinical detail, but presents a pragmatic approach to medical education and service and to the important interface between them. The influence of American and Western European "physician models," systems of medical education, and hospital-centered delivery systems upon developing countries has been nothing short of disastrous, and children have been the greatest sufferers.

Although significant attention has been allocated to hospital management of COVID-19 patients during this pandemic, less discussed is the management of ambulatory patients. This has resulted in a challenge for ambulatory care providers in the management of COVID-19, particularly in areas with high disease prevalence. In this article, the authors share a pragmatic approach to ambulatory management of COVID-19 at Northwell Health, a large health system that employs approximately 300 primary care providers in the New York metro area. This includes guidance on various COVID-19 management topics: clinical assessment algorithms, guidance on patient tracking, and the importance of engaging in partnerships with other provider types. Sharing these experiences in the clinical management of COVID-19 may benefit other ambulatory providers in earlier stages of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Charles Grandison Finney appeared on the American religious scene in the early 1820's, and following a rather dramatic conversion experience he determined to enter the ministry. With some tutoring from his pastor, the Reverend George W. Gale, but no formal theological training, he began to preach in the “burned-over district” of upper New York State. His early successes in attaining conversions led him to adopt a pragmatic approach to the problems of theology and thus to be quite impatient with the Calvinistic theological system.

Few subjects command as much intrinsic interest as does sex. Few controversies rage more actively than that over morality, particularly now when effective contraception heralds increased sexual freedom. Those concerned with attitudes of children toward sex, be they parents, pediatricians, or the children themselves, will find this book useful. Sex and Morals addresses itself forthrightly to the subjects of its title. The Whiteleys' opening discussion of the reasons for a sexual morality shows clearly their tempered, pragmatic approach.
