AbstractObjective:We report an adult case of nasopharyngeal carcinoma treated with radical chemo-radiotherapy, with subsequent development of a histologically proved temporal cavernous haemangioma within the radiation field.Method:Case report and review of the current literature concerning radiation-induced, secondary, space-occupying lesions. Conclusion:The increasing role of radiotherapy in nasopharyngeal carcinoma treatment, together with improved patient survival, is likely to lead to radiation-induced, secondary, space-occupying lesions being encountered more frequently. We emphasise the need to be vigilant for this important but relatively rare complication, which has significant associated morbidity.

Abstract Oesophageal-pericardial fistula after radiation therapy for lung cancer is a rare complication associated with a high mortality. In this case report, we present the case of 52-year-old women with late radiation-induced oesophagitis after chemoradiotherapy for a pulmonary adenocarcinoma, complicated by an oesophageal-pericardial fistula for which a transthoracic oesophagectomy with pericardial drainage was performed. The postoperative course was complicated by a fatal hypovolaemic shock due to a perforation of the descending aorta near the initial fistula track. In this case report, we illustrate the importance of thorough inspection of diagnostic images in this context and emphasize the role of endovascular repair in case an associated aortic perforation is suspected.

Background: Leptomeningeal cysts are a rare complication of childhood fractures, being very rare in adulthood and usually related to previous trauma generated in children. Case Presentation: We present a case of “growing fracture” in a 70-year-old woman with a history of head injury in childhood, who clinically debuted with paresthesia-dysesthesia in the left hemicranium and hypersensitivity and pain in the affected area, and who was treated with surgical treatment. Conclusion: We review the pathogenesis, diagnosis and treatment of this injury today.

Background: Breast involvement of tuberculosis (TB) is well known but uncommon. It can resemble other diseases, including breast cancer, and diagnosis is quite difficult. So, when facing a breast lesion, a possible tubercular etiology should always be born in mind, relying on qualified laboratories to confirm the diagnosis. Case Report: We describe a 42-year-old woman with a mammary fistula complicating a post-traumatic lump. A critical analysis of the diagnostic process was performed together with a review of the literature, also considering the potential role of trauma in inducing such a rare complication.

Abstract Coronary artery aneurysms in children were observed as a rare complication associated with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). This case report describes the severe end of the spectrum of the new multisystem inflammatory syndrome in a 12-year-old child with coronary aneurysms, myocardial dysfunction, and shock, managed successfully with extracorporeal membrane oxygenation support and immunomodulation therapy. This report also highlights the additional benefits of cardiac CT in the diagnosis and follow-up of coronary aneurysms.

Calcium channel blockers are commonly used tocolytic agents on Labor and Delivery units worldwide as part of the management of preterm labor. Despite their overall reassuring safety profile, rare cardiovascular complications have been reported. In this report, we describe the case of threatened preterm labor managed with nifedipine with subsequent development of atrial fibrillation. This type of cardiac arrhythmia may have considerable consequences for both the mother and the fetus. The aim of this case report and comprehensive review of the literature is to raise awareness.
