AbstractPorina collina Orange, Palice & Klepsland is described as new from siliceous rocks in the Czech Republic, Great Britain and Norway. The thallus produces isidioid propagules which resemble those in P. rosei, P. hibernica and P. pseudohibernica, but which are more fragile and poorly-defined, and almost ecorticate; the perithecial wall is dark purplish brown and the ascospores are 3-septate. Sequences of the mitochondrial ribosomal DNA suggest that the new species belongs in the Porina byssophila clade.

The new lichenicolous hyphomycete, Monodictys epilepraria, is described from thalli of several Lepraria species. It is known from the Czech Republic, Great Britain, Lithuania, Poland, Spain and Sweden, and appears to be widespread, but probably much overlooked. The new species is characterized by relatively small, brown, muriform, smooth-walled conidia developing on decolourized patches of the host.

AbstractAgonimia flabelliformis sp. nov. (Verrucariaceae, Ascomycota) is described as a new species from the Czech Republic, Germany and Great Britain. Except for the distinctive, flabelliform to minutely coralloid thallus the species mostly resembles A. allobata. It differs from other related species of Agonimia in the absence of cortical papillae and in ascospore size. The distinctness of the new species and its placement within the genus Agonimia is supported by analyses of mitochondrial small subunit ribosomal DNA sequences from several samples of the taxon, and from many other representatives of Verrucariales including newly sequenced A. repleta and A. vouauxii. Additionally, ITS rDNA sequence data supports the distinction of A. flabelliformis from A. allobata. However, A. allobata was found to be highly variable and relationships, as well as the monophyly of taxa within Agonimia, are still unresolved and need further investigation.

During the investigation of fungal microbiome associated with boxwood in the Czech Republic, samples from Buxus sempervirens L. (Buxaceae) plants were collected and used for isolation. Two fungal strains were proposed as a new species Pyrenochaetopsis kuksensis based on morphology as well as phylogenetic analyses of ITS, LSU, rpb2, and tub2 sequence data. Detailed descriptions and phylogenetic relationships of the new taxon are provided.

A new species of Mycetophilidae (Diptera), Acomopterella martinovskyi sp. n., is described from the Czech Republic and Austria. This is the first record of the genus from the Palaearctic region. Its relationships with other genera and variation in wing characters are briefly discussed. A new combination and synonymy is proposed: Acomopterella fallax (Sherman, 1921) comb.n. = Acomopterella arnaudi Zaitzev, 1989 syn.n.

We propose two new species: Pneumia kabelaki sp. nov. from the Czech Republic and P. toubkalensis sp. nov. from Mo-rocco. Pneumia isabellae (Wagner), a new record for Slovenia, is redescribed. Differential diagnoses are included and im-portant diagnostic characters illustrated. The concept of some Palaearctic Pericomaini is discussed and all describedspecies and subspecies of the genus Pneumia Enderlein are listed with a report of 34 new combinations. The followingspecies are transferred from Pericoma Haliday to Pneumia: Pneumia ariegica (Vaillant), P. borealis (Berdén), P. califor-nica (Kincaid), P. canariensis (Tonnoir), P. delphinensis (Georges), P. extricata (Eaton, P. hirticornis (Tonnoir), P. isabel-lae (Wagner), P. jungi (Vaillant), P. longistylis (Mirouse), P. marinkovicae (Krek), P. omogoensis (Tokunaga & Komyo),P. propinqua (Satchell), P. rivularis (Berdén), P. sziladyi (Szabó), P. thomasi (Vaillant), P. vandeli (Mirouse). In addition,nineteen species are transferred from Satchelliella Vaillant to Pneumia: Pneumia arvernica (Vaillant), P. balcanica (Krek),P. bosniaca (Krek), P. bucegiana (Vaillant), P. dissimilis (Krek), P. distincta (Krek), P. incurvata (Krek), P. joosti (Wag-ner), P. montenegrina (Krek), P. narsanica (Vaillant & Joost), P. pyrenaica (Vaillant), P. sanae (Krek), P. sandaliae (Sala-manna), P. scotiae (Curran), P. stammeri dinarica (Krek), P. stylata (Vaillant, 1973), P. tarae (Krek), P. ussurica (Wagner) and P. vaillanti (Wagner).

Abstract The aim of the Round Table was to compare British and Czech experiences with railway regulation and competition introduction and to determine which lessons can be learnt. Special attention was paid to the question of whether the very complex British reform can be an inspiration for further liberalisation of the railway sector in the Czech Republic or whether there are any reform mistakes that are best avoided. Based on two introductory presentations and subsequent plenary discussion, some consensus emerged. The participants agreed that there is no one-size-fits-all solution to railway regulation and that the introduction of competition should take into account the different circumstances of a particular country. Franchising in passenger operations in Britain successfully stimulated demand but also increased costs to the industry, so its implementation should be completed with care. It seems very unlikely that open-access competition would be a viable solution for the whole passenger rail market because it is limited to a few commercially attractive routes, and as Czech experience suggests, it creates many new problems. Finally, it was confirmed that a strong and dedicated regulator is needed in a newly liberalised environment in order to solve many emerging conflicts and disputes.

AbstractEpipelic cyanobacteria were studied in bottom sediments from ponds and lakes in the United Kingdom and the Czech Republic, covering a trophic gradient from deep, oligotrophic, glacial lakes to shallow, eutrophic, urban manmade ponds. Although many planktic species were observed, the most frequently occurring cyanobacteria were the motile filamentous genera Oscillatoria, Phormidium, Pseudanabaena and Komvophoron. These genera represent autochtonous epipelic assemblages, occurring in upper surface layers of the sediments throughout the year and exhibiting seasonal variation in their abundancy. The occurrence of individual Komvophoron species was influenced by sediment quality, particularly the proportions of fine mud and organic detritus. A new species Komvophoron hindakii sp. nov. is described. Morphological features, autecology and occurrence of all the Komvophoron-like morphospecies found are discussed.
