Researchers explored client meaningful experiences in a combination of individual and family counseling in this constructivist phenomenological study. The sample consisted of seven participants (three families) who ranged in age from 10 to 51. Participant racial/ethnic identities included two White, two biracial, and two Black. Participant gender identities included five females and two males. Two interviews per client family (one interview following an individual counseling session and another following a family counseling session) revealed the following themes: (a) understanding self and others, with subthemes gaining understanding and acceptance of self, better understanding of each other and how to be with each other, and learning coping skills; (b) setting and working toward goals; (c) processing issues in session, with subthemes counseling is not always what we want, but is maybe what we need, and tension of family versus individual counseling; (d) the counselor; and (e) play.

Abstract The self-anchored rating scale (SARS) is a technique that augments collaboration between Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) interventionists, their clients, and their clients' support networks. SARS is a technique used in Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, a branch of systemic family counseling. It has been applied to treating speech and language disorders across the life span, and recent case studies show it has promise for promoting adoption and long-term use of high and low tech AAC. I will describe 2 key principles of solution-focused therapy and present 7 steps in the SARS process that illustrate how clinicians can use the SARS to involve a person with aphasia and his or her family in all aspects of the therapeutic process. I will use a case study to illustrate the SARS process and present outcomes for one individual living with aphasia.

The paper contributes to efforts to theoretically analyze possible psychological approaches personal gender-role conflict in career development, selected in terms of causes and peculiarities of its manifestation. We suggest considering such approaches at two levels – personal and orga­ni­zational ones. Personal level involves generating achievement motivation and psychological cri­teria for success; developing emotional competence; analyzing career and family values, identifying immediate life goals; analyzing family concepts; family counseling; psychological work with men aimed at maintaining parental identity; developing role competence; time management; psycho­logical analysis of individual gender identity and gender experience; challenging gender stereo­types. Organizational level includes developing family-friendly workplace culture, relying on gen­der-specific approach in staff coaching.

Basic competence used during counseling session is the development of trained skills and experienced obtained by counselor candidate during their education. To obtain the skills the counselors have to seriously pass some training phases. This study is aimed at finding out the basic competence possessed by counselor candidate during counseling session in Faculty of Education and Teachers Training in Islamic University of Raden Intan Lampung. This research applied quantitative method, involving 145 of final year students who were randomly selected. Data was collected by distributing the questionnaire of counseling basic competence and analyzed by using descriptive statistic aided by Statistics Package for Social Science (SPSS version 22.0). Generally the findings of the study reveals that the counseling basic competence possessed by the counselor candidates is placed on Average/Simple level. The study also shows that there is no difference competence pursuant to gender and Grade Point Average (GPA) achieved by the object of the study. It implies that the basic competence in conducting counseling session is extremely important and prominent prossesed by the counselors in schools.
