In the practice of medicine, resilience has gained attention as on of the ways to address burnout. Qualitative studies have explored the concept of physician resilience in several contexts. However, individual qualitative studies have limited generalizability, making it difficult to understand the resilience concept in a wider context. This study aims to develop a concept of resilience in the context of physicians’ experience through a meta-synthesis of relevant qualitative studies. Using a predetermined search strategy, we identified nine qualitative studies among 450 participants that reported themes of resilience in developed and developing countries, various specialties, and stages of training. We utilized the meta-ethnography method to generate themes and a line-of-argument synthesis. We identified six key themes of resilience: tenacity, resources, reflective ability, coping skills, control, and growth. The line-of-argument synthesis identified resilient physicians as individuals who are determined in their undertakings, have control in their professional lives, reflect on adversity, utilize adaptive coping strategies, and believe that adversity provides an opportunity for growth. Resilient physicians are supported by individual and organizational resources that include nurturing work culture, teamwork, and support from the medical community and at home. Our findings suggest that resilience in physicians is dynamic and must be supported not only by physician-directed interventions but also by organization-directed interventions.

We induce a first-person conceptualization of entrepreneurial resilience. Our seven-year, two-study ethnography shows that entrepreneurs enact resilience as a four-step process of managing vulnerability: they richly experience episodes of adversity, self-monitor across episodes, reassess personal thresholds and reconcile challenges with coping skills. Entrepreneurs manage vulnerability by (1) modifying ( stretching and shrinking) objective time and (2) changing their subjective experience of time as working with or against the clock through temporal resourcing or temporal resisting. We extend the theory and practice of entrepreneurial resilience by elaborating the interplay of objective and subjective time in managing vulnerability in recurrent and unprecedented crises.

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic caused social disturbances that have an impact on physical activity in the elderly, especially in doing leisure time, so that appropriate coping skills are needed to overcome various disorders in recreational activities so that the elderly do not have an impact on psychological disorders. The purpose of this study was to analyze recreational activities carried out as well as strategies for the elderly's coping skills in carrying out recreational activities during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: This research is qualitative research with a phenomenological perspective. Methods of in-depth interviews and documentation. Data were obtained through in-depth interviews with 8 elderly informants in Bonjok Lor Village, Bonorowo District, Kebumen Regency who have met the criteria (able to communicate well; elderly who are not actively working/retired; helping research informants). The data analysis technique used method triangulation and theoretical triangulation. Results: There was a change in the leisure of the elderly between before and before the COVID-19 pandemic. This triggers a change in the goals of the elderly in doing recreational activities. On the other hand, the COVID-19 pandemic poses various problems for the elderly, such as psychological problems, health problems, disturbances in carrying out activities, and compliance with health protocols. Appropriate coping skills strategies are needed, such as; task-oriented coping, emotion-oriented coping, avoidance-oriented coping with the aim that the elderly can still carry out recreational activities during the COVID-19 pandemic. Conclusion: Changes in recreational activities and the goals of the elderly in doing recreation during the COVID-19 pandemic trigger various problems, therefore skills are needed to overcome the right strategies so that the elderly can benefit from doing recreational activities during the COVID-19 pandemic.

2020 saw the world affected by an unprecedented pandemic. Alongside the healthrisks, the COVID-19 pandemic has created mental health difficulties for a largenumber of people. Many people are feeling anxious or depressed, in ways that they might never have before.This eight module Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Workbook is designed to support those who are struggling with symptoms of anxiety and depression because of the COVID-19 crisis. This workbook has been created to provide psycho-education and self-help techniques to manage COVID-19 related distress.The workbook includes a variety of cognitive and behavioural strategies including;mindfulness exercises, gradual exposure to feared situations, physical coping skills, reducing unhelpful behaviours that contribute to anxiety (e.g. avoidance), reducing worry, maintaining identity and testing out beliefs about COVID-19.It is recommended that this workbook can be completed by anyone who is over the age of eighteen. The Coping During COVID-19 Workbook doesn’t replace formal psychological or medical support but may be an additional resource.

Cancer-related treatments may lead to side effects that undermine a patients’ quality of life (QOL). Although cognitive behavioral therapy plus coping management (CBTM) may appear to improve health-related QOL in cancer patients, limited documentation exists on the effectiveness of psychosocial interventions for patients with breast cancer (BC) during recovery. The purpose of this study was to examine the effectiveness of CBTM for sleep quality, anxiety, depression, and health among patients with BC. An experimental study was conducted to assess the efficacy of a CBTM intervention (experimental group = 36, control group = 34). The experimental group received a 12-week CBTM intervention focused on their identity, challenges, the replacement of dysfunctional beliefs, coping skills, relaxation, and rehabilitation exercises, while the control group received usual care. The follow-up evaluations were performed immediately after the intervention (T1), and at one (T2) and three months (T3). The generalized estimating equation (GEE) model showed significant effects from the CBTM intervention over time. The experimental group showed significant improvement in sleep quality, anxiety and depressive symptoms, and significant increases in their mental and physical QOL from baseline, T1, T2, and T3—except for the mental and physical QOL showing no significant change at T3—while the control group receiving usual care showed no changes over time. The results suggest that CBTM increases sleep quality, reduces anxiety and depressive symptoms, and enhances health-related QOL for participants. CBTM is efficacious and can be provided by nurses to enhance patients’ coping skills and consequently improve their QOL.

Educational accommodations are frequently given to students with disabilities. For instance, students might be given a copy of class notes or provided additional time to complete a test. One purpose of accommodations is to improve educational equity, putting all students on equal footing. However, research on current accommodations practices raises two distinct equity-related concerns. First, students from privileged backgrounds are more likely to receive certain accommodations even without adequate evidence of need; this can provide an unfair boost in performance and widen gaps among students. Second, when students from less privileged backgrounds are given accommodations, the incentive for schools to provide academic remediation, compensatory strategies, and coping skills is lessened, leaving these students in a worse position when accommodations are not available outside of educational settings. Implications for practice are discussed.

Background: Frontline healthcare providers are consistently exposed to potentially traumatic events while assisting patients with COVID-19. Post-traumatic growth (PTG) happens when a person can transform trauma and use adversity in one’s advantage. In response to limited studies on positive outcomes that may occur from the pandemic; this study aimed to elucidate the positive impact of coping with COVID-19 outbreak on mental health, such as PTG.Methodology: The study comprised a sample of 691 healthcare providers 59% female, including physicians (n = 138) and nurses (n = 550), working in public health facilities in Kosovo, with an average age of 41.6 years (SD = 10.79). They were asked to complete a questionnaire with four parts: Socio-demographic, GHQ-28, COPE and PTGI. A deterioration of mental health with somatic symptoms leading to the escalation due to COVID-19 outbreak was found.Results: Female healthcare providers reported more clinical symptoms as well as higher coping skills scores than men. The domains in which positive changes were most frequently observed were Relating to Others, New Possibilities and Personal Strength. There was no significant direct effect of mental health on PTG in the mediation model, though a significant indirect effect was observed for coping skills.Conclusion: The results suggest that levels of mental health exacerbation do not play a conclusive role in determining levels of PTG, as long coping mechanisms are in place. The development and implementation of interventions to minimize COVID-19-related mental health consequences, by fostering PTG among healthcare providers could be highly beneficial in pandemic response work.

Abstract Pain is common and undertreated in patients with dementia, and contributes to disability, psychological distress, neuropsychiatric symptoms and caregiver stress. The goal of this study was to develop a caregiver-assisted pain coping skills training protocol tailored for community-dwelling adults with mild-moderate dementia and their family caregivers. We conducted interviews with patients and caregivers to develop the protocol. We then conducted a single arm pilot test of the intervention’s feasibility and acceptability. Patients were recruited from an outpatient memory care clinic and screened for pain using the validated Pain, Enjoyment, General Activity (PEG) scale. The intervention included five sessions of training in pain assessment, relaxation, pleasant activity scheduling, and integrative movement. Initially sessions were conducted in person or by videoconference according to the dyad’s preference; during COVID-19 (latter half of study) all sessions were conducted remotely. Eleven dyads consented and provided baseline data [patients: mean age=77.7 years (SD=4.8), 70% non-Hispanic white; caregivers: mean age=69.6 years (SD=13.3); 91% non-Hispanic white; 73% spouses]. Nine dyads (82%) completed all five sessions. Caregivers reported high levels of satisfaction with the intervention (mean=3.4 on 1-4 scale) and frequent use of pain coping skills (mean=3-4 days/week). On average, patients reported pre-post decreases in pain severity (mean=-1.2, SD=1.8) and pain interference (mean=-0.64, SD=0.67) on the Brief Pain Inventory. Overall these findings suggest that a behavioral pain coping intervention for patients with mild-moderate dementia and their caregivers is feasible, acceptable, and potentially helpful for managing pain.
