Two three-dimensional metal–organic frameworks 1 and 2 based on p-terphenyl-3,4′′,5-tricarboxylic acid (H3TPT) were synthesized by controlling the solvent media. These two MOFs exhibit high efficiency for the recyclable detection of nitroaromatic compounds.

The (4,8)-connected Zr/Hf-MOFs exhibit excellent performances in the detection of Cr2O72− and the exact location and configuration of Cr2O72− inside the MOFs were revealed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies for the first time.

A heterometallic MOF with strong blue fluorescence and interrupted cap topology was synthesized, which not only showed naked-eye selective detection ability towards the nitro explosive trinitrobenzene but also displayed the high sensing selectivity towards picric acid.
