By co-substituting a cation (M2+:Ba2+ or Ca2+) and Al3+–O2− into Sr2Si5N8:Eu2+ in a solid-state method, we successfully synthesized the nitrido-alumino-silicate phosphors Sr(2−y)MySi5−xAlxN8−xOx:Eu2+ (Ba-AlO-258 (My = Ba0.3, x > 0) and Ca-AlO-258 (My = Ca0.3, x > 0)).

YBa2Cu4O8 has emerged as better choice in superconducting application thank to it strong thermal stability. High pressure techniques had been employed for the preparation of YBa2Cu4O8 but it might costly and/or inconvenient. Several research groups had showed that the YBa2Cu4O8 can also be prepared by conventional solid state method with heating at 1 atm oxygen pressure; however the phase formation processes are yet brief and clear. This work infiltrated the phase formation processes in preparing the YBa2Cu4O8 under solid state method with heating at 1 atm oxygen pressure. The effectiveness of the use of sodium nitrate as an enhancer was brought to light by the experiment results. Significant YBa2Cu4O8 phases were successfully synthesized.

AbstractThe effect of MgB2 addition on the Eu1Ba2Cu3O7 (EBCO) ceramics was systematically studied. Series of Eu1Ba2Cu3O7 + x(MgB2) samples (x = 0 wt.%, 0.05 wt.%, 0.1 wt.%, 1 wt.%, 3 wt.%) were prepared using traditional solid state method. X-ray powder diffraction measurements were used for phase identification. The lattice parameters and orthorombicity decreased with MgB2 addition. A standard four point measurement method was used to determine transition temperatures Tc of superconducting samples. Tc values of the samples were decreasing with MgB2 concentration. TGA results indicate thermal stability of doped samples.
