New records of little known deep-sea Echinothambematidae (Crustacea: Isopoda: Asellota) with redescription of Menzies, 1962 and description of a new species from the Argentina Basin
Newtoniellinae is a worldwide marine group of cold-water, deep-sea species, comprising the genera Cerithiella, Paramendax and Trituba. Prior to this study, the subfamily was represented in Brazil by four species of Cerithiella. The present contribution adds new Brazilian records of two of these species, Cerithiella amblytera and Cerithiella enode, in addition to new records of two species previously known only from Cuba and the south-eastern USA, respectively: Cerithiella sigsbeana comb. nov. and Cerithiella producta. Two new species of Cerithiella from Brazil are described: Cerithiella atali sp. nov. has a pointed protoconch identical to the species described in the previously synonymized genus Stilus; Cerithiella candela sp. nov. has the teleoconch very similar to Cerithiella pernambucoensis, but is differentiated by the protoconch morphology. Also, a new species of Trituba is described, Trituba anubis sp. nov., which is the second species of this genus recorded for the western Atlantic. Eumetula axicostulata comb. nov. and Eumetula vitrea comb. nov., both from the western Atlantic but not recorded from Brazil, are transferred from the genus Cerithiella. This study increases from four to nine the number of known species of Newtoniellinae from Brazil.
Recent collections of deep-sea majid crabs from the South Pacific Ocean and Taiwan provide new records of five species of Cyrtomaia Miers, 1886, and a new species from French Polynesia, C. polynesica n. sp. The news species is most similar to the recently described C. micronesica Richer de Forges & Ng, 2007, but differs from this species in the morphology of its carapace and pereopods.
Deep-sea pycnogonid material collected during the N/O Alis Campagnes Norfolk 2 to New Caledonia in 2003 and Salomon 2 to the Solomon Islands in 2004, together with two samples from the BOA0 and BOA1 Campagnes to Vanuatu in 2004–2005, has been analyzed. This includes only the second collection of deep-sea pycnogonids from the Solomon Islands. The material includes 22 specimens from seven species from New Caledonia, taken at depths from 265 to 1150 m, 95 specimens from 14 species from the Solomon islands, at depths from 336 to 1218 m, and two specimens of one species from Vanuatu (864–927 m depth). The first male of Ascorhynchus constrictus is described, including the first description of the anterior legs. A new species of Ascorhynchus is partially described, but not named owing to its incompleteness. Seven of the species are new to the Melanesia region, including a notable range-extension for Colossendeis tasmanica. The local zoogeography of these deep-water species is discussed.
A new species of Amanita sect. Roanokenses, A. brunneofolia, from South Korea, is described based on morphological and molecular evidences. The species is characterized by medium- to large-sized basidiomata, a greenish white pileus covered with brownish, floccose pyramidal volval remnants, an appendiculate margin, reddish brown lamellae, a long radicating stipe, and ellipsoid to elongate amyloid basidiospores. Based on both nrLSU and combined dataset (nrLSU, rpb2 and tef1-α), A. brunneofolia formed a monophyletic clade and clearly separated from other Amanita species. In addition, we describe two other Amanita species in A. sect. Roanokenses, namely, A. caojizong and A. sphaerobulbosa. This is the first report of these species for South Korea.
A new species of amphipod, Bathyporeia watkini sp. nov. from the Atlantic coasts of North Africa is described. This very characteristic species is abundant in some lagoons and estuaries near 28°N. New morphological information on B. elkaimi d’Udekem d’Acoz and Menioui, 2004 is given after specimens that were recently collected on the Atlantic coasts of southern Spain and South Portugal. The male of B. ledoyeri d’Udekem d’Acoz and Menioui, 2004 is described for the first time and new records of North African B. guilliamsoniana (Bate, 1857) and B. chevreuxi d'Udekem d'Acoz and Vader, 2005a are discussed.
Gastrochilus nepalensis, a new species of orchids from central Nepal is described. A key to its allied species is provided. Thirteen species are reported as new records for Nepal: Epipogium japonicum, Goodyera nankoensis, Habenaria davidii, Habenaria wolongensis, Herminium chloranthum, Herminium kamengense, Herminium longilobatum, Herminium pusillum, Liparis campylostalix, Peristylus calcaratus, Platanthera stenochila, Platanthera roseotincta, Platanthera yadongensis.
Further observations on North African and South Iberian Bathyporeia (Crustacea, Amphipoda), with the description of a new species
