In this paper the effect of Layered double hydroxides (LDHs) on aging properties of asphalts was studied. The thin film oven test TFOT tests and ultraviolet (UV) aging process were used to simulate short-term and long-term aging of asphalts, respectively. After aging, the physical properties and dynamic shear rheological behaviors of LDHs modified asphalts were investigated. The viscosity of LDHs modified asphalts was measured by Brookfield viscometer before and after UV aging. After UV aging, with an increase of LDHs, softening point and viscosity value of modified asphalts decreased, while both of ductility and penetration increased, compared to base asphalts. Temperature sweep tests showed that the complex modulus of LDHs modified asphalts was lower than that of base asphalt, while phase angle was higher. The results showed that LDHs improved the UV aging resistance of the asphalt, and it could prevent asphalt from UV aging.

The crystal structure, microscopic morphology, particle size distribution and UV shielding properties of layered double hydroxides (LDHs) with different particle size were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), laser particle size analysis and ultraviolet and visible (UV-vis) spectrophotometer. The effects of LDHs with different particle size on the physical, rheological properties and UV aging resistance of bitumen were investigated by conventional physical properties and dynamic rheological characteristics. The results indicated that the particle size of LDHs had a little effect on the physical properties, and it had some influence on rheological properties of bitumen, but its influence on the UV aging resistance of bitumen was different significantly. When UV aging time was 9d, the viscosity aging indexes of bitumen modified by LDHs with different particle size (80nm, 115nm and 180nm) decreased by 48.2%, 58.1% and 63.8% compared with the pristine bitumen, respectively. LDHs with the particle size of 180 nm showed better improvement than other two kinds of LDHs on UV aging resistance of bitumen.

Modified nano-TiO2 was prepared by using triethanolamine and tetraisopropyl di (dioctylphosphate) titanate, respectively. Then the poly(p-phenylene benzobisoxazole) (PBO) fibers doped with different additions of modified nano-TiO2 particles were prepared by preparing PBO polymer solution and dry-jet wet spinning technique. Thermogravimetric and derivative thermogravimetry results showed that the addition of nano-TiO2 could improve the crystallinity and maximum thermal decomposition rate temperature of PBO fibers. Tensile strength results showed that nano-TiO2 addition did not affect the tensile properties of PBO fibers before ultraviolet (UV) aging began, and nano-TiO2 with addition values lower than 3% could improve the UV aging resistance performance of PBO fibers, while the aging resistance would be seriously reduced if values were over 5%. The size and quantity of the amorphous regions have a more important influence on the aging resistance of PBO fibers.
