Abstract. The connection mode of reducer with straight tube on both sides are the welding connection. There are two weld at the both side of reducer and there has a great influence on residual stress and deformation in the process of welding . Based on the particularity of reducer welding, the paper is focus on the residual stress and deformation in the process of welding, using large-scale finite element analysis software ANSYS .The DN500X450 reducer model is established. The welding temperature field and residual stress field is analysis and calculation and analysis the influence on temperature and stress distribution of reducer. The results show that the maximum of the temperature and the residual stress is located in the big side and reduce the welding seam, and the obvious deformation also find in the big side and reduce joint . The reducing pipe’s distribution of temperature field and residual stress field are obtained, providing the basis to establish properly and optimize of welding process.

Abstract This study was carried out in two stages. In the first step, a numerical study was performed to verify the previous experimental study. In accordance with the previous experimental study data, single lap joints models were created using the ANSYS finite element analysis program. Then, nonlinear stress and failure analyses were performed by applying the failure loads obtained in the experimental study. The maximum stress theory was used to find finite element failure loads of the single lap joints models. As a result of the finite element analysis, an approximate 80 % agreement was found between experimental and numerical results. In the second step of the study, in order to increase the bond strength, different overlap end geometry models were produced and peel and shear stresses in the adhesive layer were compared according to the reference model. As a result of the analyses, significant strength increases were calculated according to the reference model. The strength increase in model 3 and model 5 was found to be 80 % and 67 %, respectively, relative to the reference model.

In this paper, the finite element analysis was firstly employed to investigate the thermal analysis on two fireproof sealing models with ANSYS software under HC standard temperature-time condition. The main thermal parameters were analyzed and obtained, including temperature field, thermal flux, and thermal gradient. After comparing the two fireproof sealing models, the major conclusions are summarized as follows: In terms of temperature field, the temperature on the left side of the first model ranges from 60 to 524°C in. In contrast, the highest temperature on the left side of the second model eventually reaches below 151°C. Moreover, the vectors of thermal gradient in the first model are compared with the second model, and the temperature gradient disturbance is more obvious in the second fireproof sealing model, which is better to slow down temperature spreading. The accelerated speed of E1 and G1 is 0.0096°C/s and 0.0619°C/s partly, which are far more than C2 and F2 with values of 0.0028°C/s and 0.0078°C/s, respectively. In a word, the performance of the first fireproof sealing model is inferior to the second fireproof sealing model. The conclusions of the study are meaningful to improve the thermodynamic performance of the fireproof sealing in the converter station.
