Lanthanum aluminate(LaAlO3) single crystal as a substrate for high Tc superconducting film has attracted attention recently. We report here a transmission electron microscopy(TEM) study of the crystal structure and phase transformation of LaAlO3 by using Philips EM420 and EM430 microscopes. Single crystals of LaAlO3 were investigated first by optical microscope. Stripe-shaped domains of mm size are clearly seen(Fig.1a), and 90° domain boundary is also obvious. TEM specimens were prepared by mechanical grinding and polishing followed by ion-milling.Fig.lb shows μm size stripe domains of LaAlO3. Convergent beam electron diffraction patterns (CBED) from single domain were taken.Fig. 2a and Fig. 2c are [001] zone axis patterns which show a 4mm symmetry, and the (200) dark field of this zone axis gives 2mm symmetry(fig.2b). Therefore the point group of this crystal is either 4/mmm or m3m. The projection of the first order Laue zone(FOLZ) reflections on zero layer (fig. 2c) shows that the unit cell is face centered. A tetragonal unit ceil is chosen, with a=0.532nm and c=0.753nm, c being determined from the FOLZ ring diameter.

Sea level and wave data at Salalah coast (Oman) were used to simulate nearshore waves and current during the tropical cyclone ARB01 (9 May2002). STWAVE model (Steady State Spectral Wave) was applied for nearshore wave simulation, while M2D model ((Two-Dimensional Depth Averaged circulation model) was used to simulate nearshore current. The results of simulations (taking into account the mutual effects of both current and waves) showed that: The significant wave heights generally decrease from about 6m at the domain boundary to about 1 m close to the coast. The wave heights during the ebb period were higher than that during the flood period by about 1.5m. Along Salalah coast, higher waves were found along the eastern side of the domain. This is because the shielding effect of breakwater, which protect the western part of the coast from high waves. Relatively Strong current with values up to 1.5 ms-1 were found in the nearshore region during both ebb and flood periods. The M2D model results also showed cyclonic circulations during these periods which help in the renewal of harbor waters. Generally, the model results showed good agreements with observations in the investigated area.

Compared with continuous elements, discontinuous elements advance in processing the discontinuity of physical variables at corner points and discretized models with complex boundaries. However, the computational accuracy of discontinuous elements is sensitive to the positions of element nodes. To reduce the side effect of the node position on the results, this paper proposes employing partially discontinuous elements to compute the time-domain boundary integral equation of 3D elastodynamics. Using the partially discontinuous element, the nodes located at the corner points will be shrunk into the element, whereas the nodes at the non-corner points remain unchanged. As such, a discrete model that is continuous on surfaces and discontinuous between adjacent surfaces can be generated. First, we present a numerical integration scheme of the partially discontinuous element. For the singular integral, an improved element subdivision method is proposed to reduce the side effect of the time step on the integral accuracy. Then, the effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by two numerical examples. Meanwhile, we study the influence of the positions of the nodes on the stability and accuracy of the computation results by cases. Finally, the recommended value range of the inward shrink ratio of the element nodes is provided.
