Rapidly progressive epicardial hemorrhagic blebs during weaning from cardiopulmonary bypass after perimembranous ventricular septal defect closure has not been reported previously. Here, we describe the case of a 3-month-old baby with life-threatening epicardial hemorrhagic blebs and an interventricular septal hematoma after perimembranous ventricular septal defect patch closure.

AbstractAchondroplasia with co-morbid CHD is rare, as are reports of surgical treatment for such patients. We present the case of a 13-year-old girl with achondroplasia and ventricular septal defect. Her ventricular septal defect was surgically repaired focussing on the cardiopulmonary bypass flow, healing of the sternum, and her frail neck cartilage. The surgery and recovery were without complications.

A neonate was diagnosed with ventricular septal defect and aortic coarctation. Bilateral pulmonary artery banding was performed at 9 days of age (weight 1472 g). Because of ductal shock, emergency extracorporeal membrane oxygenation was initiated after surgery. Fine adjustment of the bilateral pulmonary artery banding sites using hemoclips was carried out to facilitate weaning from extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, and staged delayed sternal closure was achieved. Arch repair, ventricular septal defect closure, and tricuspid annuloplasty were undertaken when the patient was 4-months old (weight 1.8 kg). She was discharged at 11 months of age (3.0 kg).
