Control arms are subjected to static and dynamic loads in car during their lifetime. Recent increases in loads in which control arms are subjected, are not complying with the low-weight design targets expected by auto makers. In this study, buckling behavior of control arms which have been produced with Si particle reinforced aluminum based metal composite material have been investigated and compared with the performance of control arms that are produced with standard aluminum alloy. The results revealed that mechanical properties of control arm housings with 10% Sip MMC material are lower than standard 6110 alloy due to different process parameters. Elasticity of modulus of control arm housings with 10% Sip MMC material are approximately 7% higher than standard aluminum alloys. Buckling results of control arms with 10% Sip MMC material are around 25% lower that control arms with standard 6110 alloy. Also, a second darker phase was found in the microstructure.

Purpose: It has been shown that oral contrast does not improve the diagnostic accuracy of Computed Tomography (CT) for appendicitis in pediatric patients; however, the cohorts in these studies were not stratified by weight or body mass index. The purpose of this study is to assess the benefit of oral contrast administration for identifying the appendix in younger children in the lower weight quartile. Materials and Methods: This retrospective study comprised 100 patients (2–10 years) in lower weight quartile who had intravenous contrast-enhanced CT of the abdomen and pelvis, 37 of which with oral contrast, and 63 without. A pediatric radiologist and a pediatric radiology fellow independently assessed whether the appendix was visualized or not. In case of discrepancy, an additional pediatric radiologist was the “tie-breaker.” Chi-squared test was used to compare the proportion of visualized appendix between the groups (with and without oral contrast). Inter-rater reliability was determined using Cohen’s Kappa coefficient. Results: There was no significant difference in the visualization of the appendix between the group with oral contrast and without ( P = 1). The Cohen Kappa coefficients were .33 (.05, .62) and .91 (.73, 1.00) for the “no oral” and “oral” groups, respectively, yielding evidence of a difference ( P = .007). Conclusions: There was no significant difference in the visualization of the appendix using CT with or without oral contrast in low-weight pediatric patients. The inter-rater reliability, however, was significantly higher in the group given oral contrast. Additional studies assessing the value of oral contrast for the sole indication of appendicitis may provide clearer results.

In this chapter, low weight barium-based cholorsilicate Ba5Cl6Si2O6:Eu2+ is prepared through a solid-state reaction. To confirm the structure of the synthesized phosphors, powder photographs were obtained using an x-ray diffractometer. Photoluminescence spectra and FTIR spectra were recorded. Photoluminescence spectra are studied. The emission peak is observed at 407 nm at excitation 275 nm. The intense violet-blue emission is obtained. The broad excitation band and strong emission indicate that Ba5Cl6Si2O6:Eu2+could be a good phosphor candidate for blue LED and white LEDs. Decay curve indicates the phosphor has a long afterglow feature.

Integrated battery chargers (IBCs) have been proposed as a low-weight, low-volume, and high-power solution to conventional conductive chargers. However, the design of such chargers is complicated, requiring special components or control techniques to solve inherent issues (such as galvanic isolation, torque generation, and system reconfiguration) associated with their design. Solutions vary based on charging power, drive topology, and motor technology. This chapter introduces designs for IBCs, including solutions as proposed in the literature. It also presents challenges in their industrial adoption. Finally, the chapter presents opportunities for fleet charging applications using IBCs.

To realize a machine learning (ML) model to estimate the dose of low molecular weight heparin to be administered, preventing thromboembolism events in COVID-19 patients with active cancer. Methods: We used a dataset comprising 131 patients with active cancer and COVID-19. We considered five ML models: logistic regression, decision tree, random forest, support vector machine and Gaussian naive Bayes. We decided to implement the logistic regression model for our study. A model with 19 variables was analyzed. Data were randomly split into training (70%) and testing (30%) sets. Model performance was assessed by confusion matrix metrics on the testing data for each model as positive predictive value, sensitivity and F1-score. Results: We showed that the five selected models outperformed classical statistical methods of predictive validity and logistic regression was the most effective, being able to classify with an accuracy of 81%. The most relevant result was finding a patient-proof where python function was able to obtain the exact dose of low weight molecular heparin to be administered and thereby to prevent the occurrence of VTE. Conclusions: The world of machine learning and artificial intelligence is constantly developing. The identification of a specific LMWH dose for preventing VTE in very high-risk populations, such as the COVID-19 and active cancer population, might improve with the use of new training ML-based algorithms. Larger studies are needed to confirm our exploratory results.

Effects of essential oils, namely Cinnamon, Citronella, Peppermint, Eucalyptus, Lavender, Thyme, Rosemary, Basil oil enriched coconut oil emulsion on shelf life and quality of ambient stored mango cv. Rangkuai were evaluated. Citronella oil (Cymbopogon nardus) @ 0.5% (v/v) was found to maintain low weight loss (5.14%), high fruit firmness (52.85 N/cm2), ascorbic acid (33.62 mg/100 g), total phenol (89.67 mg/100 g) and least fruit decay (8.33%) at 12 days after storage (DAS) and had delayed accumulation of pulp colour (L: 91.06, a: -2.61, b : 24.03), β-carotene (3.85 mg/100 g) and total sugar (4.46%) for delayed ripening, thus found to extend the shelf life by 7 days compared with control (12.85 days). As low weight at birth can be a marker for future risk factors for cardiovascular diseases, public school children who had this positive history were studied S to nutritional status, lipids, glucose, uric acid, blood pressure and socioeconomic conditions. The main interest of the investigation is to find statistically significant correlations among data collected from young public school children from a city outside of the capital of Sao Paulo in Brazil. Results: risk factors for metabolic syndrome presented higher impact considering blood pressure and socioeconomic conditions, calling for better prenatal care and surveillance plus intervention in the low weight at birth children.

This study aims to explore the tensile and impact properties (tensile strength, modulus of elasticity, and impact strength) of polypropylene (PP)-based nanocomposites reinforced with graphene nanosheets, nanoclay, and basalt fibers. The response surface methodology (RSM) with Box–Behnken design (BBD) was adopted as the experimental design. An internal mixer was used to prepare compounds consisting of 0, 0.75 and 1.5 wt% graphene nanosheets, 0, 10 and 20 wt% basalt fibers, and 0, 3 and 6 wt% nanoclay. The samples were prepared by a hot press machine for mechanical testing. The tensile tests were run to determine the tensile strength, and modulus of elasticity, and the Charpy impact tests were performed to assess the impact strength. It was found that the addition of basalt increased the tensile strength, modulus of elasticity, and impact strength by 32%, 64% and 18%, respectively. Also, the incorporation of the low-weight graphene nanosheets increased the tensile and impact strength by 15% and 20%, respectively, Adding graphene nanosheets generally improved the modulus of elasticity by 66%. Similarly, the addition of nanoclay improved the tensile strength by 17% and increased the modulus of elasticity by 59%, but further addition of it decreased the impact strength by 19%. The values obtained by this experiment for the mechanical property were roughly close to the data yielded from desirability optimization.

Abstract COVID-19 is the most devastating pandemic situation we have experienced in our age, affecting all systems. Although it affects all systems, it shows its most important effect through thrombophilia. Therefore, the possible cause of sudden death due to COVID-19 may be embolism caused by thrombophilia. D-dimer amounts increase due to COVID-19. The thrombosis is associated with sudden death in COVID-19 disease in populations. Since individuals with thrombophilia will be more prone to death due to COVID-19, it may be appropriate to administer low doses of Clexane (Enoxaparin sodium) or low-weight heparin for prophylactic purposes in order to consider these individuals at high risk and to prevent deaths. Moreover, in order not to risk the lives of healthcare professionals with thrombophilia, it would be appropriate to keep them away from individuals with COVID-19 disease and to employ them in different healthcare services according to their fields of expertise. It should also not be forgotten that different symptoms related to COVID-19 appear day by day, these different symptoms probably show that the virus has undergone mutations in order to survive, but no matter what, its effect on thrombophilia has not been eliminated yet. This compilation aims to present the reasons and causes of death due to COVID-19, possible treatment options, and thrombophilia panel tests and new parameters that may have a place in the meticulous interpretation of these tests and possible etiopathology in the light of current information. Therefore, presenting this information in a rational manner and keeping the parameters of the thrombophilia panel under strict control predict that the deaths due to the virus will be partially reduced.
