When the amplitude modulation of species-specific acoustic signals is distorted in the transmission channel, signals become difficult to recognize by the receiver. Tolerant auditory pattern recognition systems, which after having perceived the correct species-specific signal transiently broaden their acceptance of signals, would be advantageous for animals as an adaptation to the constraints of the environment. Using a well-studied cricket species, Gryllus bimaculatus , we analysed tolerance in auditory steering responses to ‘ Odd ’ chirps, mimicking a signal distorted by the transmission channel, and control ‘ Silent ’ chirps by employing a fine-scale open-loop trackball system. Odd chirps on their own did not elicit a phonotactic response. However, when inserted into a calling song pattern with attractive Normal chirps, the females' phonotactic response toward these patterns was significantly larger than to patterns with Silent chirps. Moreover, females actively steered toward Odd chirps when these were presented within a sequence of attractive chirps. Our results suggest that crickets employ a tolerant pattern recognition system that, once activated, transiently allows responses to distorted sound patterns, as long as sufficient natural chirps are present. As pattern recognition modulates how crickets process non-attractive acoustic signals, the finding is also relevant for the interpretation of two-choice behavioural experiments.

many functions are possessed by the neural network such as parallel processing, self-learning and self-adapting. It could approximate any nonlinear function with any precision. A very effective way is provided by the neural network to deal with complex control problems, such as nonlinear, multivariable and uncertain ones etc. Therefore, the neural network is widely used in many aspects: pattern recognition, system identification and control fields and so on.It is developed in the paper about the application of neural networks pattern recognition and system identification. With MATLAB 6.1 and Visual Basic 6.0 design platform and developing tool, for some application instances, implement modeling, simulation and systematic test tasks of the neural networks pattern recognition and system identification. The above research and instances indicate that the neural networks pattern recognition and system identification based on MATLAB have better application prospects.

In the modern world, human recognition systems play an important role to   improve security by reducing chances of evasion. Human ear is used for person identification .In the Empirical study on research on human ear, 10000 images are taken to find the uniqueness of the ear. Ear based system is one of the few biometric systems which can provides stable characteristics over the age. In this paper, ear images are taken from mathematical analysis of images (AMI) ear data base and the analysis is done on ear pattern recognition based on the Expectation maximization algorithm and k means algorithm.  Pattern of ears affected with different types of noises are recognized based on Principle component analysis (PCA) algorithm.

Multibody dynamics simulation technology can provide a great help to understand and analyze motorcycle dynamics. In fact, its application in this field has grown very fast in the last years. However, apart from the mathematical model of the vehicle, a virtual rider is essential in order to properly simulate a motorcycle. This is due to the unstable nature of two-wheeled vehicles, which makes them very difficult to simulate by using open-loop maneuvers. The problem of developing a virtual rider for motorcycles has already been covered in literature but most of the proposed control algorithms achieved their purpose without considering the physiological limits of the rider. The objective of the research activities presented here are the preliminary development of a realistic virtual rider based on an experimental campaign and its subsequent simulation together with a detailed multibody model of a motorcycle. Special emphasis was put on making the rider model as simple as possible to facilitate the posterior design of the controller. Real rider movements were measured under laboratory conditions by means of the Motion Analysis technique. Several volunteers with different riding experiences, gender and anthropometry were involved in the experiments in order to provide a valid dataset for the analysis. For the present research, the virtual rider controls the direction of the motorcycle by means of both a torque on the handlebars and the movement of his body. The upper part of the rider’s body was modeled as an inverted pendulum. With regard to the longitudinal dynamics, the motorcycle is controlled by means of the brake torques and by the engine torque, which is transmitted to the rear wheel by means of a simplified model of the chain. First results of the developed virtual rider are presented at the end of this paper.

According to the shortcomings of large volume and high cost about the plate recognition system, an embedded plate recognition system is developed based on the ARM11 processor at lower costs. Taking the embedded Linux system as the software development platform, the system uses graphical user interface to operate and control the machine. Using CMOS camera system as image acquisition device, the system adopts HSV algorithm to realize the image classification on the platform of the embedded plate recognition system. The experimental results show that the embedded system runs stably, can realize the plate classification by color, and has the advantages of small size, low power consumption, convenience for using and so on. The embedded system provides a new thought for plate recognition.
