A Gram-reaction-negative, strictly aerobic, yellow-pigmented, rod-shaped bacterium, designated strain T3T, was isolated from freshwater of Chishui River flowing through Maotai town, Guizhou, south-west China. Analysis of the16S rRNA gene sequence indicated that strain T3T was a member of the genus Flavobacterium and closely related to Flavobacterium resistens DSM 19382T (96.8  %). The novel strain was able to grow at 10–34 °C (optimum 28 °C), pH 6.0–11.0 (optimum pH 8.0–9.0) and with 0–2.0  % (w/v) NaCl (optimum 0  %). The major polar lipids were phosphatidylethanolamine, two unknown glycolipids, five unknown aminolipids and four unidentified lipids, and the major respiratory quinone was MK-6. The predominant fatty acids were C16  :  1ω7c and/or C16  :  1ω6c and iso-C15  :  0. The DNA G+C content of the strain was 36 mol  %. Based on these data, strain T3T represents a novel species of the genus Flavobacterium, for which the name Flavobacterium procerum sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is T3T ( = CGMCC 1.12926T = JCM 30113T).

Two novel strains, T9T and T10, were isolated from water samples collected from Chishui River flowing through Maotai town, Guizhou, south-west China. The isolates were yellow-pigmented, Gram-reaction-negative, rod-shaped, non-motile and aerobic. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that the isolates belonged to the genus Flavobacterium , and showed highest similarities to Flavobacterium hibernum DSM 12611T (97.0 %), followed by Flavobacterium granuli Kw05T (96.7 %) and Flavobacterium pectinovorum DSM 6368T (96.7 %). The novel strains were able to grow at 20–37 °C (optimum 25 °C), pH 7.0–10.0 (optimum pH 7.0–8.0) and with 0–0.5 % (w/v) NaCl (optimum 0.5 %). The predominant fatty acids were iso-C15 : 0, C16 : 1ω7c, anteiso-C15 : 0, C15 : 0, iso-C15 : 0 3-OH and iso-C15 : 1ω10c, and menaquinone-6 (MK-6) was the main respiratory quinone. The major polar lipids were phosphatidylethanolamine, one unknown glycolipid, two unknown aminolipids and two unidentified lipids. The DNA G+C contents of strains T9T and T10 were 37.7 and 36.4 mol%, respectively. According to the phenotypic and genetic data, strains T9T and T10 represent a novel species in the genus Flavobacterium , for which the name Flavobacterium maotaiense sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is T9T ( = CGMCC 1.12712T = JCM 19927T).

Bacterial strain V2M44T was isolated from forest soil from the Changbai Mountains, Heilongjiang Province, China. Cells of strain V2M44T were Gram-negative, rod-shaped and 0.3–0.4 μm in diameter and 1.5–2.5 μm long. The cells were strictly aerobic and were motile by means of peritrichous flagella. Growth occurred at 20–33 °C (optimum, 29–31 °C), at pH 5–8 (optimum, pH 6.0–7.0) and in the presence of 0−0.1 % (w/v) NaCl (optimum, 0.05 %). Strain V2M44T contained C17 : 1 ω6c (38.9 %) and summed feature 7 (comprising C18 : 1 ω7c, C18 : 1 ω9t and/or C18 : 1 ω12t, 31.5 %) as the major cellular fatty acids and Q-10 as the major respiratory quinone. The major polar lipids were sphingoglycolipid, phosphatidylmonomethylethanolamine, phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylglycerol and diphosphatidylglycerol along with two unidentified phospholipids and four unidentified glycolipids. The major component in the polyamine pattern was sym-homospermidine. The DNA G+C content was 65.8 mol%. Analysis of 16S rRNA gene sequences indicated that strain V2M44T was phylogenetically related to members of the genus Sphingomonas, with sequence similarities ranging from 92.0–95.8 %. Based on these results, it is concluded that strain V2M44T represents a novel species of the genus Sphingomonas, for which the name Sphingomonas changbaiensis sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is V2M44T (=CGMCC 1.7057T=NBRC 104936T).

Abstract A novel Gram- negative, cream-colored, rod-shaped, aerobic, non-motile bacterium, designated MSA67T, was isolated from a subterranean sediment sample of the Mohe Basin in Northeast China. Strain MSA67T was detected to grow at 4–40°C (optimum, 28–30°C), pH 5.0–10.0 (optimum, pH 7.0) and in 0.0–8.0 % (w/v) NaCl (optimum, 2.0–3.0 %). Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequence revealed that strain MSA67T was a member of the genus Devosia, with the highest similarity with D. riboflavina IFO13584T (98.0 %) and D. chinhatensis IPL18T (97.0 %). The major cellular fatty acids are C16:0, C18:1ω7c 11-methyl and C18:1ω6c and/or C18:1ω7c. The major polar lipids are diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol, glycolipids and three unidentified phospholipids. The major respiratory quinone is ubiquinone 10 (Q-10). The genomic size of strain MSA67T is 4.1 MB and DNA G + C content is 63.6 %. Based on genotypic, phenotypic and phylogenetic results, strain MSA67T is concluded to represent a novel species of the genus Devosia, for which the name Devosia sediminis sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is MSA67T (= CGMCC 1.18467T = KCTC 82192T).

A novel bacterial strain, designated M2T2B15T, was isolated from fermented bovine products and was characterized by using a polyphasic approach. Colonies were reddish pink and circular with entire margins. Cells were strictly aerobic, Gram-reaction-negative, oxidase- and catalase-positive rods that lacked flagella and were motile by gliding. Flexirubin-type pigments were absent. 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis indicated that strain M2T2B15T was related most closely to Larkinella insperata LMG 22510T (94.4 % similarity) but shared <87 % similarity with other members of the phylum Bacteroidetes. The major cellular fatty acids were C16 : 1 ω5c, iso-C15 : 0 and iso-C17 : 0 3-OH. The polar lipids were phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylserine, two unidentified aminophospholipids and two unidentified polar lipids. Menaquinone 7 (MK-7) was the major respiratory quinone. The G+C content of the DNA of strain M2T2B15T was 52 mol%. The phenotypic, genotypic and phylogenetic data presented clearly indicate that strain M2T2B15T represents a novel species of the genus Larkinella, for which the name Larkinella bovis sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is M2T2B15T (=KACC 14040T =NBRC 106324T). Emended descriptions of the genus Larkinella and of Larkinella insperata Vancanneyt et al. 2006 are also proposed.

A novel, facultatively anaerobic actinobacterium, designated strain CBA3103T, was isolated from sediment of the Geum River in South Korea. Phylogenetic analysis indicated that strain CBA3103T is most closely related to Raineyella antarctica LZ-22T (98.47 % 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity). The genome of strain CBA3103T was 3 649 865 bp with a DNA G+C content of 69.6 mol%. The average nucleotide identity value between strain CBA3103T and R. antarctica LZ-22T was 79.22 %. Cells of strain CBA3103T were Gram-positive, rod-shaped, 0.6–0.9 µm wide and 1.4–2.4 µm long. Growth occurred at 15–40 °C (optimum, 35 °C), at pH 6.0–7.0 (optimum, pH 7.0) and with 0–2 % NaCl (w/v) (optimum, 0–1 %, w/v). The major cellular fatty acids in strain CBA3103T were anteiso-C15 : 0, anteiso-C15 : 1 A and iso-C14 : 0. The major respiratory quinone was menaquinone-9(H4). The polar lipids of strain CBA3103T were diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine, five unidentified glycolipids and three unidentified phospholipids. Based on the genotypic, phenotypic and chemotaxonomic analyses, strain CBA3103T represents a novel species of the genus Raineyella , for which the name Raineyella fluvialis sp. nov. (type strain CBA3103T=KACC 21446T=DSM 110288T) is proposed.

A novel bacterial strain, designated THG-PC7T, was isolated from fallow farmland soil in Yongin, South Korea. Cells of strain THG-PC7T were Gram-stain-negative, dark yellow, aerobic, rod-shaped and had gliding motility. Strain THG-PC7T grew optimally at 25–35 °C, at pH 7 and in the absence of NaCl. Comparative 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis identified strain THG-PC7T as belonging to the genus Lysobacter, exhibiting highest sequence similarity with Lysobacter ximonensis KCTC 22336T (98.7 %) followed by Lysobacter niastensis KACC 11588T (95.7 %). In DNA–DNA hybridization tests, DNA relatedness between strain THG-PC7T and its closest phylogenetic neighbour L. ximonensis was below 25 %. The DNA G+C content of the novel isolate was determined to be 62.5 mol%. Flexirubin-type pigments were found to be present. The major cellular fatty acids were determined to be iso-C15 : 0, iso-C16 : 0, anteiso-C15 : 0 and iso-C17 : 1ω9c. The major respiratory quinone was identified as ubiquonone-8 (Q8). The predominant polar lipids were diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylglycerol and an unidentified aminophospolipid. On the basis of results from DNA–DNA hybridization and the polyphasic data, strain THG-PC7T represents a novel species of the genus Lysobacter, for which the name Lysobacter novalis sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is THG-PC7T( = KACC 18276T = CCTCC AB 2014319T).

A Gram-stain-variable, rod-shaped, non-motile and endospore-forming bacterium, designated strain HZ1T, was isolated from a sample of bank side soil from Hangzhou city, Zhejiang province, PR China. On the basis of 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis, strain HZ1T was closely related to members of the genus Paenibacillus, sharing the highest levels of sequence similarity with Paenibacillus agarexedens DSM 1327T (94.4 %), Paenibacillus sputi KIT00200-70066-1T (94.4 %). Growth occurred at 15–42 °C (optimum 30–37 °C), pH 5.0–9.5 (optimum pH 7.0–8.0) and NaCl concentrations of up to 6.0 % (w/v) were tolerated (optimum 0.5 %). The dominant respiratory quinone was MK-7 and the DNA G+C content was 40.1 mol%. The major fatty acids were anteiso-C15 : 0 and iso-C16 : 0. The major polar lipids of strain HZ1T were diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine and several unknown lipids. The diagnostic diamino acid found in the cell-wall peptidoglycan was meso-diaminopimelic acid. Based on its phenotypic and chemotaxonomic characteristics and phylogenetic data, strain HZ1T represents a novel species of the genus Paenibacillus, for which the name Paenibacillus ripae sp. nov. (type strain HZ1T = CCTCC AB 2014276T = LMG 28639T) is proposed.

A novel Gram-stain-negative bacteria, designated S37T, was isolated from soil of the Xixi wetland, Zhejiang province, China. Cells of strain S37T were aerobic, non-motile rods. Growth occurred at 10–37 °C (optimum, 25 °C), pH 5.0–9.7 (optimum, pH 7.5) and with 0–6 % (w/v) NaCl (optimum, 0.5 %). Based on 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis, strain S37T was found to be a member of the genus Sphingobacterium and shared highest similarity with Sphingobacterium composti 4M24T (95.78 %). The major fatty acids were summed feature 3 (iso-C15 : 0 2-OH and/or C16 : 1ω7c), iso-C15 : 0 and iso-C17 : 0 3-OH, and the DNA G+C content was 43.8 mol%. The predominant respiratory quinone was MK-7. Based on its phenotypic and chemotaxonomic characteristics and phylogenetic data, strain S37T represents a novel species of the genus Sphingobacterium , for which the name Sphingobacterium paludis sp. nov. (type strain S37T = CGMCC 1.12801T = NBRC 110386T) is proposed.

A Gram-reaction-positive, rod-shaped, spore-forming bacterium, designated Gsoil 1105T, was isolated from soil of a ginseng field in Pocheon Province in South Korea and characterized in order to determine its taxonomic position. Comparative analysis of the 16S rRNA gene sequence showed that the isolate belongs to the order Bacillales, showing the highest level of sequence similarity with respect to Tumebacillus permanentifrigoris Eur1 9.5T (94.6 %). The phylogenetic distances from other described species with validly published names within the order Bacillales were greater than 9.0 %. Strain Gsoil 1105T had a genomic DNA G+C content of 55.6 mol% and menaquinone 7 (MK-7) as the major respiratory quinone. The major fatty acids were iso-C15 : 0 and anteiso-C15 : 0. On the basis of its phenotypic properties and phylogenetic distinctiveness, strain Gsoil 1105T represents a novel species of the genus Tumebacillus, for which the name Tumebacillus ginsengisoli sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is Gsoil 1105T ( = KCTC 13942T  = DSM 18389T).

A Gram-negative, strictly aerobic, rod-shaped, non-motile, non-spore-forming bacterial strain, designated TR6-04T, was isolated from compost and characterized taxonomically by using a polyphasic approach. The organism grew optimally at 30 °C and at pH 6.5–7.0. The isolate was positive for catalase and oxidase tests but negative for gelatinase, indole and H2S production. Comparative 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis showed that strain TR6-04T fell within the radiation of the cluster comprising Sphingobacterium species and clustered with Sphingobacterium mizutaii ATCC 33299T (96.7 % sequence similarity); the similarity to sequences of other species within the family Sphingobacteriaceae was less than 92.0 %. The G+C content of the genomic DNA was 38.7 mol%. The predominant respiratory quinone was MK-7. The major fatty acids were iso-C15 : 0, iso-C17 : 0 3-OH and summed feature 4 (iso-C15 : 0 2-OH and/or C16 : 1 ω7c). These chemotaxonomic data supported the affiliation of strain TR6-04T to the genus Sphingobacterium. However, on the basis of its phenotypic properties and phylogenetic distinctiveness, strain TR6-04T (=KCTC 12579T=LMG 23402T=CCUG 52468T) should be classified as the type strain of a novel species, for which the name Sphingobacterium daejeonense sp. nov. is proposed.
