Abstract Strain WGZ8T was isolated from a soil sample of Puerh tea garden in Puer city, Southwest China. The isolate was rod-shaped, Gram-stain negative, aerobic, non-motile. Growth occurred within 0-3.0% (w/v) NaCl (optimal concentration, 0-1.0%), pH 5.0-11.0 (optimal pH, 7.0) and 10-40°C (optimal temperature, 28°C). 16S rRNA gene sequences based phylogenetic and phylogenomic analysis revealed that WGZ8T belonged to the genus Microvirga. Its major cellular fatty acids were C19:0 cyclo ω8c, C16:0, C18:1ω7c and/or C18:1ω6c. The profile of polar lipids included phosphatidyldimethylethanolamine, phosphatidylmonomethylethanolamine, phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylcholine, diphosphatidylglycerol and phosphatidyl-glycerol. The only respiratory quinone was detected as ubiquinone 10 (Q-10). The genome size of strain WGZ8T was 5.17MB, and the content of DNA G+C was 61%. Based on the results of digital DNA-DNA hybridization and phenotypic results, strain WGZ8T could be concluded as a novel species of the genus Microvirga, for which the name Microvirga puerhi sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is WGZ8T (=CGMCC 1.19171T=JCM XXXXT).

Purpose. The aim of the study is to investigate the effect of pre-sowing treatment of winter rye seeds of Synthetic 38 and Zabava with compositions of metabolically active substances on the content of photosynthetic pigments in plant leaves at different phases of ontogenesis. Materials and methods. The research materials were winter rye varieties Synthetic 38 and Zabava, and combinations of metabolically active substances: vitamin E (10-8M), paraoxybenzoic acid (0,001%), methionine (0,001%), ubiquinone-10 (10-8M) and MgSO4 (0,001%). The research scheme provided 4 options: 1) control (untreated seeds); 2) seeds, treated with a composition of substances: vitamin E + paraoxybenzoic acid + methionine + MgSO4; 3) seeds treated with a composition of substances: vitamin E + paraoxybenzoic acid + methionine; 4) seeds, processing by composition of substances: vitamin E + ubiquinone-10. Studies were conducted in the following phases of rye development: tillering, tubing, earing, flowering. The content of pigments - chlorophyll a, b and the total content of chlorophyll in the leaves of rye plants was determined by spectrophotometric method. Results and conclusions. It was demonstrated for the first time that the use of compositions of metabolically active compounds for pre-sowing treatment of winter rye varieties Synthetic 38 and Zabava leads to an increase of main chlorophyll, chlorophyll a and b in plant leaves in the dynamics from tillering to flowering. The composition consisting of vitamin E, para-oxybenzoic acid, methionine and MgSO4 showed the greatest efficiency. The effectiveness of this composition may be due to the complex action of all metabolically active compounds that are part of it. The obtained results may indicate a potentially more efficient absorption and conversion of energy by plants and the positive effect of these compositions on the photosynthesis of winter rye plants. Substances that have shown their effectiveness can be used as components of stimulants.

A novel endophytic bacterial strain, designated GR-TSA-9T, was isolated from surface-sterilized grape (Vitis vinifera L.). 16S rRNA gene sequence analyses showed that the isolate was grouped within the genus Brevundimonas, displaying the highest similarity with Brevundimonas lenta DS-18T (97.9%) and Brevundimonas kwangchunensis KSL-102T (97.8%) and less than 97.5% similarity with other members of Brevundimonas. The strain GR-TSA-9T was a gram negative, rod shaped, facultatively anaerobic, catalase and oxidase positive, and motile bacterium. Its growth occurred at 10–37°C (optimally 25–30°C), at pH 7.0–8.0, and in NaCl 0–1% (optimally 0%). It contained ubiquinone-10 as a respiratory quinone, and the major cellular fatty acids (>10% of the total) were C16:0 (14.2%) and summed feature 8 (C18:1ω7c and/or C18:1ω6c, 65.6%). The polar lipids present in the strain were phosphoglycolipids, phosphatidylglycerol, 1,2-di-O-acyl-3-O-[d-glucopyranosyl-(1→4)-α-d-glucopyranuronosyl]glycerol, and unidentified lipids (L1, L2, and L4). The strain had one 2,976,716bp circular chromosome with a G+C content of 66.4%. The digital DNA–DNA hybridization value between strain GR-TSA-9T and B. lenta DS-18T was 20.9%, while the average nucleotide identity value was 76.7%. In addition, the dDDH and ANI values to other members in this genus, whose genome sequences are available, are less than 21.1 and 77.6%. Genome annotation predicted the presence of some gene clusters related to tyrosine degradation and pyomelanin formation. Strain GR-TSA-9T produced a brown melanin-like pigment in the presence of L-tyrosine-containing media. The highest pigment production (0.19g/L) was observed in tryptic soy broth with 1.0mg/ml L-tyrosine at 25°C for 6days of culture. Biophysical characterization by ultraviolet (UV)–visible spectroscopy, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, and electrospray ionization mass spectrometry confirmed that the pigment was pyomelanin. Additionally, melanized GR-TSA-9T cells could protect the cells against UVC exposure. The phylogenetic, genomic, phenotypic, and chemotaxonomic features indicated that strain GR-TSA-9T represents a novel melanin-producing species of Brevundimonas. The type strain was GR-TSA-9T (KCTC 82386T=CGMCC 1.18820T).

We previously showed that novel filterable bacteria remain in “sterile” (<0.2 μm filtered) terrestrial environmental samples from Japan, China, and Arctic Norway. Here, we characterized the novel filterable strain IZ6T, a representative strain of a widely distributed lineage. Phylogenetic analysis showed that this strain was affiliated with the Rhizobiales (now proposed as Hyphomicrobiales) of Alphaproteobacteria, but distinct from any other type strains. Strain IZ6T shared the following chemotaxonomic features with the closest (but distantly) related type strain, Flaviflagellibacter deserti SYSU D60017T: ubiquinone-10 as the major quinone; phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylcholine, and phosphatidylglycerol as major polar lipids; and slightly high G+C content of 62.2 mol%. However, the cellular fatty acid composition differed between them, and the unsaturated fatty acid (C18:1ω7c/C18:1ω6c) was predominantly found in our strain. Moreover, unlike methyrotrophs and nitrogen-fixers of the neighboring genera of Hyphomicrobiales (Rhizobiales), strain IZ6T cannot utilize a one-carbon compound (e.g., methanol) and fix atmospheric nitrogen gas. These findings were consistent with the genome-inferred physiological potential. Based on the phylogenetic, physiological, and chemotaxonomic traits, we propose that strain IZ6T represents a novel genus and species with the name Terrihabitans soli gen. nov., sp. nov. (=NBRC 106741T = NCIMB 15058T). The findings will provide deeper insight into the eco-physiology of filterable microorganisms.

Abstract During the investigation of exploring potential psychrotolerant species from Antarctica soil, a novel pink-pigmented bacterium designated strain 3D7T was isolated. Cells of the isolate were observed to be rod-shaped (0.7–0.9×1.0–2.2 µm), Gram-stain negative and non-motile. It was able to grow at 4–32 ℃, pH 7.0–10.0 and in the presence of 0–3 % (w/v) NaCl. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain 3D7T belongs to the genus Microvirga and was most closely related to ‘Microvirga brassicacearum’ CDVBN77T (98.3 %), Microvirga subterranea DSM 14364T (96.8 %), Microvirga guangxiensis 25BT (96.5 %) and Microvirga aerophila DSM 21344T (96.5 %). The predominant quinone was ubiquinone 10 (Q-10), and the major fatty acids were summed feature 8 (C18:1ω7c and/or C18:1ω6c) and C19:0 cyclo ω8c. The predominant polar lipids were phosphatidylcholine and phosphatidylethanolamine. The genomic DNA G + C content of strain 3D7T was 63.5 mol%. Its genome sequence showed genes encoding phosphatases and lipases. Genetic machinery related to carbohydrate-active enzymes and secondary metabolites were also observed. The average nucleotide identity and digital DNA–DNA hybridization values based on whole genome sequences of strain 3D7T and its closely related species were below the threshold range for species determination. Phenotypic, chemotaxonomic, phylogenetic and genomic analyses suggested that strain 3D7T represents a novel species of the genus Microvirga, for which the name Microvirga antarctica sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is 3D7T (= CGMCC 1.13821T = KCTC 72465T).

Abstract A gram-stain-negative, aerobic, orange-pigmented bacterial strain, designated as HHU K3-1T, was isolated from the surface water of the Yellow Sea. The strain was observed to grow on 2216E agar medium, and optimal growth occurred at pH 7.0, at 28 ℃ and with 2.0% (w/v) NaCl supplement. The major fatty acids (>10%) were summed feature 3 (C16:1ω6c/C16:1ω7c), C17:1ω6c and summed feature 8 (C18:1ω6c/C18:1ω7c). Strain HHU K3-1T was found to contain ubiquinone-10 as the predominant quinone and the major polar lipids were diphosphatidylglycerol (DPG), phosphatidylethanolamine (PE), phosphatidylglycerol (PG) and sphingoglycolipid (SGL). The 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis indicated that strain HHU K3-1T shared highest similarities with Pelagerythrobacter marensis KCTC 22370T (97.7%) and Qipengyuania oceanensis MCCC 1A09965T (96.9%). However, a phylogenetic tree based on 288 orthologous clusters (OCs) indicated that HHU K3-1T was close related to Parapontixanthobacter aurantiacus MCCC 1A09962T. The pairwise AAI and evolutionary distance between HHU K3-1T and Parapontixanthobacter aurantiacus MCCC 1A09962T is 67.1% and 0.43, respectively, which meet the recently proposed standard to differentiate genera in the family Erythrobacteraceae. On the basis of the result obtained by the polyphasic taxonomic study, the strain HHU K3-1T can be considered to represent a novel genus in the family Erythrobacteraceae, for which the name Actirhodobacter atrilutea gen. nov., sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is HHU K3-1T (= MCCC 1K04225T = KCTC 72834T = CGMCC 1.17395T).
