Based on the time dependent of local density approximation method, the processes of excitation of sodium clusters by swift highly charged C 6+, C 4+, C 2+, and C + are studied. The time dependent probabilities of escaped electrons are obtained and the ionization probabilities of the Na 2 are deduced. One finds that, the cluster is strongly ionized by C 6+, and there is only a weak ionization by C +.
