The structure of 16-26 O is investigated within the relativistic mean field (RMF) as well as high-energy nuclear collisions. The reaction cross-sections of 16-24 O +12 C around 1 GeV are calculated within the multiple scattering theory, where the multiple integrals are evaluated by Monte Carlo method as well as by the optical limit approximation of the Glauber model. In-medium effects are investigated within the optical limit, where it is found to be important in order to get reliable information about nuclear radii and density distributions. The reaction cross-sections indicate to a halo structure for 23 O . This neutron halo is also found in the rms matter radii and nuclear densities especially when Fermi shape is used in the optical limit, including in-medium effects, in extracting the parameters of the density distributions from the experimental reaction cross-sections.

The experimental angular distributions for [Formula: see text]-particles elastically scattered from [Formula: see text]C nucleus in the energy range 48.7–386[Formula: see text]MeV and for 6He+[Formula: see text]C nuclear system in the energy range 5.9–493.8[Formula: see text]MeV have been reanalyzed. Data analysis is performed within the framework of both optical model (OM) and double folding optical model (DFOM). In this model, the real part of the potential is generated using the double folding procedures based on the effective M3Y interaction between projectile nucleons and target nucleons in addition to an imaginary part of Woods–Saxon (WS) form. Two criteria are used in order to observe the nature of 4He and 6He elastically scattered from [Formula: see text]C and the effect of the two neutron halo structure of 6He. First, the extracted potential parameters are utilized for calculating the reflexion coefficients [Formula: see text] which is strongly related to angular momentum [Formula: see text]. Second, the reduction in reaction cross-sections with the projectile’s energy.

The surface of neutron-rich heavy nuclei, with a neutron skin created by excess neutrons, provides an important terrestrial model system to study dilute neutron-rich matter. By using quasi-free α cluster–knockout reactions, we obtained direct experimental evidence for the formation of α clusters at the surface of neutron-rich tin isotopes. The observed monotonous decrease of the reaction cross sections with increasing mass number, in excellent agreement with the theoretical prediction, implies a tight interplay between α-cluster formation and the neutron skin. This result, in turn, calls for a revision of the correlation between the neutron-skin thickness and the density dependence of the symmetry energy, which is essential for understanding neutron stars. Our result also provides a natural explanation for the origin of α particles in α decay.

We investigated the reaction dynamics induced by the 7Be,8B+208Pb collisions at energies around the Coulomb barrier. Charged particles originated by both the col- lisions were detected by means of 6 ΔE-Eres telescopes of a newly developed detector array. Experimental data were analysed within the framework of the Optical Model and the total reaction cross-sections were compared together and with the 6,7Li+208Pb colli-sion data. According to the preliminary results, 7Be nucleus reactivity is rather similar to the 7Li one whereas the 8B+208Pb total reaction cross section appears to be much larger than those measured for reactions induced by the other weakly-bound projectiles on the same target.
