Devices that are used in the aerospace industry must operate in extreme conditions, so it is important to understand how the properties of materials change under the influence of radiation and low temperatures. Anodic aluminum oxide, due to its mechanical and dielectric properties, is widely used in electronic devices with a high degree of integration. Radiation exposure can lead to degradation of the electrophysical parameters of dielectric films and can also change their chemical composition. The methods for studying the effect of radiation exposure on the dielectric properties of films are shown in this article. The research has been carried out and the results of the influence of α-particles on the dielectric properties of a porous film of anodic aluminum oxide during the influence of low temperature are presented.

The detection of α particles is of great significance in military and civil nuclear facility management. At present, the contact method is mainly used to detect α particles, but its shortcomings limit the broad application of this method. In recent years, preliminary research on noncontact α-particle detection methods has been carried out. In this paper, the theory of noncontact α-particles detection methods is introduced and studied. We also review the direct detection and imaging methods of α particles based on the different wavelengths of fluorescence photons, and analyze the application and development of this method, providing an important reference for researchers to carry out related work.

Abstract Radiation is a form of energy, its emitted either in the form of particles such as α-particles and β-particles (beta particles including the electron and the positron) or waves such as sunlight, X-rays and γ-rays. Radiation found everywhere around us and it comes from many different sources naturally or man-made sources. In this study a questionnaire was distributed to people working in the field of X-rays that used for a medical imaging (X-ray and CT-scan) to evaluate the extent of awareness and knowledge in estimate the damage of ionizing radiation as a result of wrong use. The questionnaire was distributed to medical clinics in Al-Harithiya in Baghdad, which it’s considered as one of the important areas in Iraq to attract and treat patients. It’s found that most of the commitment of radiography clinics by safety and security procedures. Most of the radiology clinics abide by most of the Iraqi Ministry of Health laws. However, some clinics did not implement some of the security and safety conditions

AbstractBoron neutron capture therapy (BNCT) was first proposed as early as 1936, and research on BNCT has progressed relatively slowly but steadily. BNCT is a potentially useful tool for cancer treatment that selectively damages cancer cells while sparing normal tissue. BNCT is based on the nuclear reaction that occurs when 10B capture low-energy thermal neutrons to yield high-linear energy transfer (LET) α particles and recoiling 7Li nuclei. A large number of 10B atoms have to be localized within the tumor cells for BNCT to be effective, and an adequate number of thermal neutrons need to be absorbed by the 10B atoms to generate lethal 10B (n, α)7Li reactions. Effective boron neutron capture therapy cannot be achieved without appropriate boron carriers. Improvement in boron delivery and the development of the best dosing paradigms for both boronophenylalanine (BPA) and sodium borocaptate (BSH) are of major importance, yet these still have not been optimized. Here, we present a review of this treatment modality from the perspectives of radiation oncology, biology, and physics. This manuscript provides a brief introduction of the mechanism of cancer-cell-selective killing by BNCT, radiobiological factors, and progress in the development of boron carriers and neutron sources as well as the results of clinical study.

Abstract Deterioration of the operation parameters of p-type Si surface-barrier detector and Si(Li) p-i-n detector upon irradiation by alpha-particles was investigated. The detectors were irradiated at room temperature up to a total number of the registered α-particles Nα equal to 6 × 109. Prolonged irradiation has resulted in a deterioration of the detectors energy resolution ability and it was found that the increase of α-peaks broadening can be described by a linear function of Nα with a slope Δσ/ΔNα ∼ (1.4–1.8) × 10–9 keV/α for both detectors. Resolution deterioration was associated with the increase of the detectors leakage current, which proceeds linearly with the number of absorbed α-particles with the slope ΔI/ΔNα ∼ (7-17) × 10-17 A/α. The increase of the detectors reverse current was related with appearance of radiation-induced defect level at 0.56 eV above the valence band.

Abstract Rutherford’s formula for the scattering of charged α-particles in the Coulomb field can be easily generalized to the case of gravitational scattering. The extended Rutherford formula for the gravitational scattering is presented. One of the types of the gravitational scattering in the Solar system is the gravity assist maneuvers. In this paper, an effective gravitational scattering cross-section is introduced by analogy for them and the generalized Rutherford formula for gravitational scattering is presented out when performing gravity assists. Modern methods of the ballistic design of the interplanetary space flights using gravity assist maneuvers around planets [1-3] are associated with the need to calculate a lot of trajectories (i.e. of the phase beams). For their effective use it is necessary to study the structure of non-linear flyby gravitational scattering using the Rutherford’ formula and to construct the corresponding effective modelling using according regularized phase beams. It is shown that with using of such approach, it is possible to significantly increase the efficiency of the recurrent procedure for the gravity assists chains searching for ballistic scenarios of the modern interplanetary flights.
