This chapter explores the relationship between environmental governance and urban environmental education. It first provides an overview of environmental governance and governance networks before discussing research on the prevalence of organizations conducting environmental education in governance networks in Asian, European, and U.S. cities. It then offers suggestions on how environmental education organizations can be effective contributors in urban environmental governance and explains how the role of environmental education in governance can be made transparent to educators and participants. It argues that environmental education organizations are actors in urban governance networks and can play an important role in environmental governance. It also asserts that an explicit focus on governance will enable organizational leaders to target their partnerships and efforts to have a greater impact on urban sustainability and will enable youths and other participants to gain an understanding of critical concepts in environmental management and policy.

El desarrollo de la educación ambiental para el desarrollo sostenible, se convierte en una necesidad de la formación de los estudiantes del nivel técnico medio dentro de la Educación Técnica Profesional (ETP), es por ello que en el presente artículo, a partir de aplicar los métodos de revisión documental y sistematización, se debate acerca de los términos educación ambiental y gestión ambiental para el desarrollo sostenible, posibilitan identificar la necesidad que tienen el tratamiento metodológico y didáctico para que los docentes y funcionarios incorporen los temas medio ambientales en la formación de los técnicos medios de la especialidad de Refrigeración.   Palabras clave: Educación ambiental; Desarrollo sostenible y Educación Técnica Profesional   ABSTRACT   The development of the environmental education for the sustainable development becomes a necessity for the formation of the technical middle level students of the Technical Professional Education. The development of strategies for the conservation and wise use of wetlands in Uganda is significant for what it reveals about how law contributes to the sustainable management of natural resources in poor countries in general. The highly inter-disciplinary and cross-sectoral management requirements of wetlands make this issue one of the most challenging, and wetlands constitute today the single most important environmental issue being addressed by the Ugandan government. As part of this effort, the legal frameworks for property rights and local government are being overhauled so as to provide a sounder basis for environmental management in this field. This article analyses the Ugandan approach to wetlands management and the role of property rights and local government in the environmental policy-making process.

Environmental education is needed to increase community resillience, with knowledge and skills in order to understand environmental problems, be motivated to act, and solve or prevent certain environmental problems. Building social resilience in utilizing while preserving the environment is one of the important factors for sustainable environmental management. One of the efforts is by increasing people's understanding and love of biodiversity in order to increase their motivation to manage it sustainably. To provide an engaging and dynamic learning environment for Generation Z or gen Z, a creative approach is adopted that combines technology with social interaction and feedback that stimulates curiosity and motivation, and simulates real-life situations. The problem agreed upon by the team of this program and partners was the students' low recognition of biodiversity and its function for the environment. In the long term, this could have implications for a lack of appreciation for biodiversity, including a low appreciation for the presence of plants and animals endemic to North Sulawesi. The solution applied is to introduce various types of plants and animals, with an emphasis on endemic species, and their benefits for humans and the environment. After the community partnership program (PKM, Program Kemitraan Maysarakat), the student groups of SDN 36 and SDN 70 Kota Manado (main target) as well as teachers and students involved (additional targets) increase their knowledge about biodiversity and its function for the environment and can apply planting and maintaining various local fruit-producing trees in schools and the surrounding environment. The community partnership program activities are carried out in Kelurahan Kleak, Malalayang District, Manado City, North Sulawesi Province for six (6) months. The service is carried out in several activities as follows. 1) Inventory of the school environment situation and student behavior in relation to their interactions with biodiversity. 2) Programming with partners. 3) Preparation of teaching modules. 4) Implementation of outreach activities in the form of webinars with active involvement of learners through presentations accompanied by interactive discussions. 5) Planting and distributing various types of plant seeds. 6) Preparing reports and writing articles for scientific publications. AbstractThis article explores the changing ways ‘environment’ has been represented in the discourses of environmental education and education for sustainable development (ESD) in United Nations (and related) publications since the 1970s. It draws on the writings of Jean-Luc Nancy and discusses the increasingly dominant view of the environment as a ‘natural resource base for economic and social development’ (United Nations, 2002, p. 2) and how this instrumentalisation of nature is produced by discourses and ‘ecotechnologies’ that ‘identify and define the natural realm in our relationship with it’ (Boetzkes, 2010, p. 29). This denaturation of nature is reflected in the priorities for sustainable development discussed at Rio+20 and proposed successor UNESCO projects. The article argues for the need to reassert the intrinsic value of ‘environment’ in education discourses and discusses strategies for so doing. The article is intended as a wake-up call to the changing context of the ‘environment’ in ESD discourses. In particular, we need to respond to the recent UNESCO (2013a, 2013b) direction of global citizenship education as the successor to the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development 2005–2014 that continues to reinforce an instrumentalist view of the environment as part of contributing to ‘a more just, peaceful, tolerant, inclusive, secure and sustainable world’ (UNESCO, 2013a, p. 3).
