To improve the voltage gain of step-up converters, the cascaded technique is considered as a possible solution in this paper. By considering the concept of cascading two Z-source networks in a conventional boost converter, the proposed topology takes the advantages of both impedance source and cascaded converters. By applying some modifications, the proposed converter provides high voltage gain while the voltage stress of the switch and diodes is still low. Moreover, the low input current ripple of the converter makes it absolutely appropriate for photovoltaic applications in expanding the lifetime of PV panels. After analyzing the operation principles of the proposed converter, we present the simulation and experimental results of a 100 W prototype to verify the proposed converter performance.

Bidirectional high gain DC-DC buck boost converter is a virtual interface among PV source and inverter fed motor drive. In this article, a PV panel integrating a non-isolated bidirectional DC/DC converter that has high voltage gain voltage and a 3 phase three level DC/AC inverter is projected. It highlights the comparison between proportional integral controller (PIC), fractional order proportional integral derivative Controller (FOPIDC) and fuzzy logic controller (FLC) based Bidirectional DC/DC Power Converter System (BDDPCS). The design, model and simulation using SIMULINK of open loop BDDPCS and closed loop PIC, FOPIDC and FLC based BDDPCS are done and the results are discussed. The findings indicate higher performance for FLC based control of BDDPCS. The proposed BDDPCS has merits such as bidirectional power transferability, lesser hardware count with enhanced dynamic response. The hardware of BDDPCS is tested and the experiment result is compared in association with simulation results.

The development of technologies to improve the performance of photovoltaic (PV) module integrated converters (MICs) is fundamental to increase the use of distributed generation systems with photovoltaic power source in large urban centers, mainly for complex residential roofs. For two-stage PV MICs, high step-up DC-DC converters are required to boost the low PV module voltage to a higher voltage, in order to suit the DC bus voltage requirements of grid-tied inverters. Thus, to support researchers interested in developing DC-DC power conversion for PV microinverters, this paper classifies the DC-DC converters according to their operational and constructive characteristics and presents some elementary voltage-boosting techniques to aid in analyzing and understanding more complex topologies. Finally, high step-up DC-DC converters based on magnetic coupling and switched capacitor widely cited by important works related to PV applications are presented, with their principles of operation analysed in a simple and objective way, but sufficient to understand their capability to provide high voltage gain. The approach presented by this paper leads to insight into how to place the energy storage elements to create new topologies of DC-DC converters, so that high voltage gain is achieved, and how to analise the high voltage gain capability of complex topologies
