The selection of biomimetic prototypes mostly depends on the subjective observation of a designer. This research uses TRIZ to explore some inferential steps in bionic design of the heavy machine tool column. Conflict resolution theory of TRIZ is applied to describe improved and deteriorated parameters and a contradiction matrix is used to obtain recommended inventive principles. A reference table of solutions corresponding to the biological phenomenon and TRIZ solutions is formed to expedite retrieving the biomimetic object. Based on the table, herbaceous hollow stem is selected to imitate column structure. Four kinds of plant are chosen from the biological database. To select the best from four candidates, a bionic ideality evaluation index is proposed based on similarity analysis and ideality evaluation theory in TRIZ. Thus, the bionic effect can be described and compared quantitatively. Bionic configuration is then evolved concerning manufacturing requirements. Size optimization of stiffener thicknesses is implemented finally, and satisfactory results of the lightweight effect is obtained.

In this article, the Lathe Bed of DL20-MST CNC machine tool is taken as the research object. The response surface method and optimization design of goal-driven are introduced. Combining the two methods, the size optimization design method of the Lathe Bed of NC machine tool is put forward based on the ANSYS. The design dimensions which play an important role in the static and dynamic performance of Bed are found through sensitivity analysis. And then, the goal-driven optimization design of the Lathe Bed is carried out based on the response surface method, searching for the optimal dimensions of Lathe Bed, realizing the lightweight design of the Lathe Bed of NC machine tool. In addition, the improvement on the performance of Lathe Bed after optimization is analyzed. The ideas and methods used in this paper offer a good reference for the design and production of the key parts of other similar machine tools, and have a great engineering application value.

In order to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the lightweight design of the gantry machine tool, a lightweight structural optimization design system for the gantry machine tool was constructed. Serialized gantry machine tools were parametrically modeled, and a load model with multiple operating conditions was established. A twice optimization design method integrating zero-order optimization, parameter rounding, and structural re-optimization was proposed. Using the proposed method, a lightweight structural optimization design system for gantry machine tool with parametric design, lightweight design, and other functions was developed. The developed gantry machine tool lightweight structural optimization design system was applied to complete the lightweight structural optimization design of gantry frame of a certain gantry machine tool, so the structural parameters of the gantry frame were optimized. Although the maximum stress and the maximum deformation of the gantry frame increases within the allowable range, the experimental comparison before and after the optimization shows that the mass of the whole gantry frame is reduced by 9.24%, which is beneficial to save the manufacturing cost. The research results show that the constructed lightweight structural optimization design system of the gantry machine tool has high engineering practicality.
